I'm a school teacher and wondering how long I should plan on taking off work?

Well when is your date? I would have to say I was completely back to normal in 2 weeks. however if you dont have a bunch of roudy kids I would say a week would be sufficient...if you can do some of teaching while sitting....it is just soreness not real pain.

I took two weeks off- today is post-op day 7 for me, but I think I'll be up to going back to work next week. I do have a desk job though, an no little ones at home so I am getting plenty of rest and feel great.

It's only a couple hours a day with junior high ages, so not too taxing on my body. My surgery is June 19, 8 days!!!! I don't want to be in noticeable pain in front of the kids.

I'm a middle school teacher and my Dr. said 3 weeks. Now...I had a revision from a band and thought 2 weeks would be enough. I'd recoverd from the band surgery pretty quickly. Well....glad with this one I took the 3. Remember we expend a great deal of energy not just with our actions in the classroom, but also mentally. Take what your Dr. suggests. Plan to heal...think of yourself first. That's part of the process of our learning to maximize our sleeve. I love my kids...but I needed this for me. I had surgery on 5/20. Feel free to ask me anything. :-)

I had my surgery done over spring break and I took 2 additional weeks off. Honestly I could have gone back without the 2 additional weeks, but I'm still glad I had them.

I'm a teacher too and took two weeks. I also walked the entire state fair 4 days post op so I guess I recovered more quickly than most.

I probably could have gone back at 2 weeks, but I took 3 weeks off. I figured even if I was feeling pretty good I would still be trying to get used to my new way of eating, so I took a little bit extra time.

I was down for about 2 1/2 weeks. Just really sore, but, I'd do it every day if I needed to. Best decision of my life!

Hi. I'm also a teacher. My surgery is scheduled for 6-24. I waited until summer so I would have 6-7 weeks off, plus I have 2 young children at home. I'm a revision from band to sleeve so I wanted to allow myself plenty of time to recover and get through the liquid, mushy phases during my vacation. I started the pre-op diet the last week of school which was tough but I managed. Good luck to you!

I do middle school inclusion and I would have to say a minimum of 2 weeks. I find that I am still fatigued easily, but I also had an umbilical hernia repaired and a sprained neck.......

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
