Which is the best unflavored whey protein powder/isolate for mixing w/ food/broths etc?

Recommended Posts

I can't have the normal Protein powders out there as they are usually never kosher/halal. So I was wondering whether anyone knew of any great tasting high Protein whey powders that I could use instead to amp up my liquids/foods/soups whatever from the get-go after the surgery. I really want to make sure I'm getting in as much protein as possible and want to put protein in basically everything I ingest lol. Have to make it count right! lol.

Another question I have regarding whey protein powders. I want to keep my carbs as low as possible (easily under the 50's in grams) and as clean as possible too, so I'm wondering how this "whey" stuff fares in that sense? Does the benefit of added protein outweigh the effects of "gluten" and carbohydrate ratio in the stuff?

Also, while we're on the subject....lol. Does anyone know if whey protein powders have sugar/sweeteners in them?

Thanks in advance to anyone and everyone who answers! :D

I use Unjury - given that my doctor/NUT are about high Protein, low carb, it may meet your requirements. I'm not going to pretend to understand the ins and outs of everything you're looking for, but feel free to google Unjury and you'll find their whey protein powders. For me, they're great! Shipping was also super fast :)

Thanks a bundle! I'll definitely look into that! BTW, you're so lucky your docs are on the high Protein low carb side!!!! What I wouldn't pay to find a doc with that same mentality for myself and my kids. lol. All the doctors I've been to are high carbs low fat monsters. They could care less what else I'm doing as long as I'm eating "enough whole grains" LOL.

I bought Garden of Life Raw Protein. It's unflavored and organic.

Hope that helps!

Please explain how you hide it because I been trying everyday and I'm not doing to well with I guest cause I know it's there. I use the 100% whey before I had surgery and it was done but after no good so my Nut had me tried Isopure and this is the nastiest I every tasted and I brought right back up so now I'm trying to work in the whey with everything and everything I eat I'm adding Protein to it

I really like the way this one is formulated. Just visited the site and to be honest this is EXACTLY what I'm looking for initially. However, the Protein is a bit low for what I need in the first stages. Actually, the protein/carb ratio is rather too high for me to at the moment. However, I will most definitely change to this stuff ASAP once I get over the initial first few stages and can add in more protein "otherwise". Meaning, my sleeve is ready for "real" food. :D

Thanks a ton Lai!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
