What were you eating 2 weeks after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I see so many of us are allow to eat many different things as the same stage post-op. I am 8 days post-op and would like to know what ya'll are/were allow to eat this week? I am only allowed clear fluids till day 10. Then I can try Diet V8, milk, yogurt, pudding, cream Soups, and apple sauce.

Everyone seems to have a different program. I was on Water only for the first 7 days. Then 3 Protein Shakes a day & water for another 14 days. It was a full 3 weeks before I was allowed soft/purees foods like yogurt. The beginning can be a bit rough. Just stick to your plan & you'll be fine.

I wasn't able to eat much for the 1st 3 or 4 weeks. I primarily lived on Protein Drinks, cream of mushroom Soup and Crystal Light.

Week one: I could barely handle Protein shakes and soymilk or baby food. Plus Water or G2 Gatorade.

Week two: Protein Shakes (sometimes with a bit of Peanut Butter or banana blended in them), Greek yogurt, sugarfree pudding (with nonflavored Protein powder mixed in), baby food (with nonflavored Protein Powder mixed in), broth or Tomato or cream of x Soups (with nonflavored Protein powder mixed in), applesauce, and a tiny bit of hummus. I drank Water with lemon, G2 gatorade, soymilk, and iced mint tea.

Week three: all the above plus pureed chili, pureed chicken salad, cooked butternut squash, and egg drop Soup. I even ate two bites of baked rhubarb!

I'm still finding mostly it's Protein Shakes. the "real" food - two tablespoons is all I can handle at a time (1/8 cup). liquids are much easier!

I was on Clear Liquids for one week, full liquids for weeks two and three. It had to flow easily through a strainer. Not even Jello or yogurt.

It was worth it. :)

Full liquids. Cream of chicken Soup and other cream Soups, I got the 98% FF - I liked Celery and chicken the best, blended or strained. No chunkies. Yogurt, SF Jell-O, skim milk. These are the things that come to mind.

I have the craving too. I think everyone does. I would LOVE a pulled pork sandwich right now! I am able to eat a whole fudgesicle and then I go right to drinking my tea. I eat/drink one thing at a time. Just take it easy and you will be ok.

I was sleeved on the 3rd of june and I was STARVING the first 6 days! None of the clear Protein drinks settled well in my stomach so I lived on Water and sugar free popsicles. Once I was able to start my Atkins protein drinks my hunger isn't as difficult to handle. Also....I was afraid to eat too much so I was doing about 2oz however I have learned that my stomach can take 4oz and then I FINALLY feel full. I believe that everybody is different and you will just have to learn what your new stomach can handle. Good Luck!

I had surgery on May 31st. No fluids or anything the first 24hrs after surgery. Then one day only Water followed by 2 weeks of Protein Shakes (70 grams of Protein per day), water (56 oz/day) clear fluids, broths. Saturday I start a week of adding strained low fat Soups and then in the 4th week I can start soft foods. Nothing worth having ever comes easy is my motto.

I'm 2 weeks from surgery and I'm eating yoghurt, tuna, boiled egg, chicken breast in small bites... I don't have a hard time eating fruits and stuff... just that I needed to progress to the smash food quicker because my body can't handle Protein Shakes

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
