kchristian 64 Posted June 11, 2013 What do you guys take for Calcium supplements? I searched everywhere because they are HUGE pills that I cannot swallow. I found these miniatures, but seriously, they should not be allowed to call them mini's. They are still big. I'm scared to death to try to swallow one. I have one pill I take everyday that is almost that size and it gets stuck almost daily. I hate it. So, any good suggestions for calcium citrate?

newat52 1,613 Posted June 11, 2013 I have been taking the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chewables. I did get a bottle of the Citracal petites and finally tried one. It went down fine. I was scared to though. I know many a lot of people are taking them. They are so much less expensive and less calories then the chewables. I am 3 months out and waited till last week to try one. About a month out I started to try some of my meds whole. I was previously cutting them in half as they were pretty small anyway instead of crushing them. It set in my stomach not well so I waited till about 2 months then it was fine. Now at 3 months, I'll finish up my chewable Calcium and then stay with the petites. Next step is getting to the regular One a day Vitamin. Good luck BTW: you are so right, even the "petites" are big! Shrinkingmom 218 Posted June 11, 2013 I use the Bariatric Advantage chewable tablets and my favorites are the chocolate. You can go to bariatricchoice.com and you get a 90 day supply for $45. The chewies are much better tasting but you get a 30 day supply for about $30 so the cost makes it worth the difference to me. It is my little chocolate treat 3 times a day. They are a bit chalky but now I am use to them and love them! The cherry ones are sour and taste just like a sweet tart if you like that kind of thing. If cost is a factor for you and you like the citrical petites, then you'll LOVE puritain's pride Miniatures.. they're the exact same thing as the citrical but mail order and WAY cheaper.. Right now they're having buy one get two free with free shipping.. I think it works out to around $6.00 a bottle!

HatheryOnHerWay 603 Posted June 11, 2013 My doctor recommended the Viactiv chews. I've been taking them ever since surgery, with no issues.
rdt210 82 Posted June 11, 2013 My doctor recommends that we take calcium citrate - it has a higher absorption rate, and can be taken on an empty stomach. It's a little harder to find - most products out there are Calcium carbonate. Anyway, Citrical is what I have been taking - I started with the gummies (2 twice a day). Some folks don't like those because they add 60 calories to your day. Then I tried the Citrical "petities"... yeah, right. I usually don't have a problem swallowing pills, but those just don't work for me - I think it's the weird shape (they're almost square). Just yesterday at Target I found that Citrical has a Sugar Free Chocolate chew - they are 15 calories and you only have to take 1 to get 500 mg. So that's only 30 calories per day and no sugar. I think I finally found the right product for me. Good luck!
nilipica 2 Posted June 11, 2013 You can take it in a liquid form. Amazon sells it but I think Ur local Vitamin shop or GNC has it too. The brand lifetime has it in calcium citrate form

SerendipityHappens 1,594 Posted June 11, 2013 Will look into those, I had not heard of them! Thanks for the tip. Are they smaller the the citracal petites? I'm sorry, but they're not smaller.. They're the exact same size and shape as the citrical.. only difference is that they don't say Citrical on them. I even did a side by side dissolve test on them, and they both had the same dissolve time (under six minutes) The product number is 33195, but I just called them because I didn't see them on the website and they are currently on backorder! Thanks for the tip about citrical, I will go buy today. My gums are really inflamed and I think it is due to ack of calcium.
