6/11/10 - three years ago my life changed

Recommended Posts

I can't believe it's been three years. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine how my life would change. It's been a wild, wild ride and I wouldn't have missed it for the world! I still don't really see me as others do, and I'm not sure I ever will. I'm still a work in progress. Good luck to all of you starting on YOUR journey, it's fun. Get a disposable camera and have someone take a picture of you the day before or the day of surgery....then have them take a picture of you every month on your surgery 'date'. After your 'one year' surgiversary, go get the camera developed. Having the pictures laid out side by side....seeing your transformation like that.....it is amazing! You'll be glad you did it, it's fun! Have a great day!

been three years. - wild, wild ride

hi Tex ;)

happy 3 year surgiversary!! :)

love to see "people like you" that are at least 3 years old/young ;)

we all want your success!!!!

continueing to do so great, enjoying life - couldn't be happier right???? :)

in other words - good health and happiness after being sleeved :)

your pictures/camera shots are a great idea!!!!

love your new picture - and your before and after shots!!! :)

unfortunately after one and a half years, i can't travel backwards and start taking pictures ;)

but.............i have actually found some shots of me over the past 10 years

usually successful at running/hiding from the camera

"mandatory" pictures taken with whole family over the years

what a difference now!!!!

new pictures/family event in October

now i smile away!!!!! :D

(can't help myself)

continued good health and happiness through your longer life :)

kathy

congrats

Thanks Kathy! Feeling good, and like you, I don't hide from the camera any longer. My new picture was taken two months when we were in Galveston. I'm glad you're feeling/doing good.....life is so different now. We both made a good decision when we decided on this surgery. I don't take it for granted and am still grateful that I was able to do it. My youngest 'grand' was 18 months, he'll doesn't even remember the 'other me'. :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
