Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! My name is Janel. I'm a 20 year old college student and I'm getting "sleeved" on June.26th. I have se pre-surgery anxiety; things like extra skin, going through clothes, adapting to my new life & how well the people around me will accept the new me after surgury! Any words of wisdom?????????

Be yourself and don't let ANYONE interfere with this joyous journey! Take it one day at a time and remember, this tool is a gift to be used wisely. If you are afraid of a few flaws you may see in your body along the way, realize the trade off is a long, healthy, happy life :)

I could care less what others thought of me/my decision to have the sleeve. While I was sure to answer any/all questions my loved ones had, no one has ever judged me about my opinions - dietary or otherwise! Perhaps my stubborn streak has convinced people that once I've made up my mind about something, it's done (funny how I could never apply that to weight loss without a tool!). My family knows I'm intelligent and had research any and everything regarding WLS before having it. More than anything, they wanted to see me come out okay on the other side - here I am!

Just take a deep breath, then go out there and ROCK your sleeve!! :)

The biggest words of wisdom are just do it. Go out get it done and you will find ways to overcome the other stuff. Yea I have a bunch of saggy skin and don't look so great with my cloths off but I would take that over dying of a heart attack in the next few years. I loved getting rid of my cloths and getting new ones. For a guy, I'm a big shopper. :)

You will feel so much better about yourself in the end, it is totally worth it in almost every way. Yea there are non fun side effects and things you will have to deal with but over time you learn the ways to deal with them.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
