Striving to follow diet recommendations, but how serious are you?

Recommended Posts

I am 7 weeks out and am REALLY following the dietary guidelines (except for some alcohol on the weekend..ok that was a few times, and I do need to watch that). I am eating high Protein, low fat, and low carb and not eating any forbidden foods but I do feel my will power waning. Will I just eventually get used to it? Or will I try to eat some forbidden foods? Or will I start just drinking alcohol to cope? I would really like to do this right but don't want to go crazy. How are you managing?

I have had a piece of candy.. The reason I had surgery was because of liver disease so as soon as I eat a carb or sugar my liver flairs..also drinking increases sugar cravings.. Which can make you weaker when you craving

You need to work with your nutritionist on this. There are no "forbidden foods" on my plan, for instance. Instead, I am told to have X number of grain servings, X number of vegetable, X number of fruit, X number of dairy, X number of Protein. If I get all of that in and still have room, I can have a bit of whatever. Without knowing what your plan is, it's hard to give you advice. And even if your plan is different from mine, you should follow yours. You chose your surgical team for a reason.

Good advice mistysj, I haven't seen my nutritionist since my surgery (sadly, there was no recommendation to so I just kind of forgot about that option). Thanks for putting that back on my radar!
