Recommended Posts

tomorrow i start the puried food diet, am alittle nervous. it seems as if its been forever since i had somewhat real food. some of the food they suggest that you eat on this phase just doesnt seem appealing to me. if anyone has any ideas that are appeasing i would appreciate any ideas. also could anyone tell me if they have had weird shoulder pain, my started about 3 days after surgery. i hope you have a merry christmas i know to all of us banded just recently it will be difficult as far as the not eating the holiday food. good luck to all.

Someone else just had the same question as you about the shoulder pain. I told her IT'S GAS - and 3 days after my surgery it was the worst pain I ever had. I couldn't breathe and I almost went back the hospital. The only thing that worked was a box of Gas-X strips (the ones that melt in your mouth). My doctor said it was ok. Try it. As far as eating, have to eaten eggs? They worked for me. Also, soft cheeses, yogurt and sugar free pudding. Those are just some I can think of. I know its not easy, but it gets better. Keep up the good work and happy holidays.

I remembered scambled eggs tasted like heaven for me. I enjoyed tomatoe Soup and chewed new england clam chowder soup.

I swear it will get easier.

I chewed on alot of sf popsicles too. banana is still my favorite.

I would stick to creamy Soups they seem to keep me the most satisified. I wouldn't worry too much about Protein right now. Once you hit solids you can eat the 60 grams. I ate mashed potatoes, cream soups, yogurts, anything that can pass through a straw. Good luck.

I can relate! I went to 3 christmas dinners and couldn't eat a thing. I just pretended as if I had already eaten. My boyfriend sat there and ate tamales and it just killed me because I was so hungry. I just sat there with super duper gas pain, smiled and drank a V-8. It was terrible. But I just kept day dreaming about how great I'm going to look 80 lbs. lighter! LOL! HA!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
