ok im gonna confess an ugly truth and please spare me the rude comments afterwards. I already feel extremely guilty about this. I cheated a few das ago on my preop diet and had a chicken quesadilla. I shouldn't have but i did and i regret it. I was told if you didn't follow your preop diet, the surgeon would be able to tell and he would close you back up and not perform the surgery. I'm terrified! Anyone heard of this happening?

You will be alright. Just make sure you say with the diet till surgery. Never read about any one being sewed back up for that reason. Best of luck.

Haha! I cheated on mine and had a six dollar guacamole bacon burger! As long as its not a day or two before surgery, and you make sure to lose the weight that your surgeon wants, you should be fine....just get back on the horse! Good luck!

There is no way your surgeon will be able to tell what you did several days before surgery. All food digest much faster then that. If you search here you'll find a large number of people cheated on preop and still had their surgery, myself included. The fact that you feel guilty is the most important part because it means you are motivated to do the right thing. If you could just flip a switch and never cheat on a diet there would be no need for surgery. So just regroup and try not to cheat again. Good Luck.

I had no pre op diet so I ate to my hearts content the days before surgery...I probably ate 1600-1800 calories per day which is a lot for me...I had no issues with surgery and there are many others like me who also do no preop diet...you will be fine.

Thanks for your help guys. I really agree strongly with one of the above comments, if it was so easy for me to say no to food, i wouldn't be in this situation in the first place! :( my surgery is tomorrow and i will be absolutely devastated if he doesn't perform the procedure cuz of that damn quesadilla!

Just stick to your diet from now on. The main concern is shrinking your liver. The last thing you want is a knocked organ.

Think of this as a test run of your new life. Believe me, you will get to a place after your sleeved where you'll be able to cheat again. Get in the habit of rejecting fatty, carb filled foods now. You'll appreciate it a year or two down the road.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
