sandeee_77 0 Posted December 24, 2006 Hi there Im travelling for the first time since I got my band and I've been wondering if the band sets off the metal detectors at the airport. As this happened to anyone? Thanks
bandiva 0 Posted December 24, 2006 I have been on two flights since being banded and had no trouble with metal detectors. If you are recently post op, my dr said to make sure to get up every 1/2 hour just to keep moving. Have a great trip!
sunshinenh 0 Posted December 24, 2006 I have flown several times without any problems at metal detectors or at customs. I have however noticed that flying seems to make my band tighter. Does not happen to everyone, but definately does with me - just a FYI. Have a great trip
beachgirl 2 Posted December 25, 2006 No, Ive flown a bunch since and it doesn't go off. The metal in my neck doesn't even set them off and the ones in Mexico are touchy.
saul 0 Posted December 26, 2006 I was banded in March 2006 have flown internationally many times since and have never set off any metal detectors. The flying definately makes my band tighter and I can not eat a thing in flight.
piercedqt78 658 Posted December 26, 2006 Make sure that you have something to eat before the flight. I skipped Breakfast thinking I would eat when we landed. (we were going to FL and I LOVE Chick-a-filet) I couldn't eat anything for about 6 hours after the flight. My band was sooo tight. I had Soup for lunch and then a very light dinner. By the next day I was fine. ~Mandy
sandeee_77 0 Posted December 26, 2006 Hi all, Thanks for the advice. Im relieved knowing that the band does not set off the metal detector, because the person Im travelling doesnt know Im banded! Anyways, does anyone know why flying makes some people feel tighter?? Just curious... Sandy 190/164/140 Banded Aug. 3rd, 2006 TLBC Toronto
piercedqt78 658 Posted December 26, 2006 Pressure changes. My daughter brought a balloon on the plane when we returned from Disney last spring, when we start to ascend the balloon popped from the pressure change. I am assuming our bands also are affected by the pressure changes, but they will not pop. ~Mandy
ReneBean 3 Posted December 26, 2006 No problems with the metal detector - but I will second the tight band thing. I never try to eat anything ON the plane and I am very careful for the rest of the day after flying. Definitly eat BEFORE you fly, especially if your restriction is tight to begin with. :]
Fauxnaif 1 Posted December 26, 2006 I have been through several metal detectors several times at both courthouses and airports. Nothing.
