*~* RANT *~* :-)

My brother is ADAMANT that I should not get this surgery and just work harder at dieting and exercise...

MY BROTHER SAID THE SAME THING "WHY DON'T U JUST WORK HARDER AND DO IT THE NATURAL WAY, ISNT THAT DANGEROUS"? I TOLD HIM THERE ARE RISK LIKE WITH ANY SURGERY BUT THIS IS WHATS BEST FOR ME. IVE BEEN BATTLING WITH THIS WEIGHT DEMON SINCE I WAS ABOUT 16-17 YRS OLD AND ITS TIME I BEAT EM. NOONE CAN DETER MY DECISION, IF THE LORD OPENS THE DOORS FOR THIS TO HAPPEN THEN IT WILL BE. OUT OF ABOUT 15 PPL THAT I HAVE TOLD 3 RESPONDED IN THAT WAY.. ITS LIKE U WANT EVERYONES SUPPORT BUT IT DOESNT ALWAYS WORK OUT LIKE THAT...OH WELL SO BE IT...

Agreed!! At the end of the day, no one dictates my future but me! And fortunately, his opinion has no validation in the outcome of my journey!

I understand you all perfectly! I am re-starting my WLS process (had to stop cause I was preggers) and the only people suportive of this is my Fiance, my best friend, and a co-worker. My mother, sister, brothers, extended family, and friends all balked when I told them I was getting the surgery before. I haven't even told this go-round, so I don't have to hear anyones mouth! All of my friends and family are healthy and skinny or their unhealthy and overweight and don't care so they really don't get it. I have been overweight since I was about 11 years old, and I was ready to lose the weight before, but with the birth of my son, I have to get healthy to be around for him! I hate hearing "Don't take the easy way; that's cheating; or just work out more..." What part of surgery, liquid diets, and removing 60% of my stomach is easy? I hope you have some one close to you that has your back and supports your decision and we are also here if you need to vent of rant, or just need some virtual hugs. Good luck on your journey!

Thanks Nelle,

I have my boyfriend, a cousin who was recently sleeved and a cousin who has helped me research this decision. If I get no one else to support me, I'm ok with them three! (Not telling anyone else though :-) )

*~* RANT *~* :-)

Well, I'm sure we've all had a friend/family member who just didn't agree with our decision to "take the easy way out" (aren't you so tired of hearing THAT one)!

My brother is ADAMANT that I should not get this surgery and just work harder at dieting and exercise... Yet, the longer I stay heavy the more fat jokes I hear! If i go to the gym 5 days in a row, I hear "you're over doing it"... if i turn down a slice a pizza, i hear "don't act like you're on a diet". If nothing else, I want to be able to eat less and exercise my heart out but the scale just won't budge!

My cousin did the sleeve first, and she warned me not to tell people before, because they would just try to discourage you from getting it done. I assumed my brother would be supportive since he's seen me struggle with my weight all these years.

His decision hasn't deterred me in any way.. I NEED this for MY reasons, no one else's. its just saddening that I need to defend becoming healthier through surgery against spending the rest of my life on these unsuccessful, never-ending diets & exercises!

Girl I know how you feel that is why i did not tell anyone im single with grown kids and my daughter would haved a field day with me taking the easy way out......its nothing easy about it! going up and down a flight of steps pretty much done me in let alone going to the gym. Im on meds for blood pressure diabetes......and everthing else....do your thang girl im keepng to myself. its a shame i have to though

It IS a shame! But it'll just make my glory that much more glorious when I succeed!

I was recently told I should get the lap band because it's "safer" and that I will just end up dying if I go through with this surgery. It really makes me regret telling people, it feels like they try to talk me out of it every few days! You just have to ignore the naysayers and keep pushing forward. Some people just can't accept change and I think a lot of it is jealousy disguised as caring.

Well not that you should have to lie but you could tell them that you DID get the Lapband. That way they shut up and you can concentrate on your journey. I'm debating about telling people either when I get my surgery. So I understand everyone's reluctance.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
