Can you get to much Protein?

Recommended Posts

Hello All, I was wondering if to much Protein can harm you? I'm a newbe and have just started trying out my protein power. I'm still in the pre-op stage, one more Nut visit then waiting on the Insurance approval. Can't wait. Thanks for all the information already provided here. Everybody is great.

Not if you have a sleeve. Even without a sleeve it will be very hard, Many cultures in human histories eat mostly Protein and they do just fine. Use your brain power for other productive thoughts

I was getting 90+ g of Protein on my pre-op diet and getting approx 55-60g a day now with dietitician goal of 60-90g per day.

Not sure how much you are wondering is too much?

I don't see where it's all that possible with the sleeve, but I could be wrong. One thing to keep in mind though, tons of Protein for several days without Fiber can be a bad thing if you know what I mean. Like needing to practice breathing techniques when trying to pass a #2. I did that once and it was like giving birth to a bowling ball.......not pleasant.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
