anyone suffer from fibromyalgia?

Recommended Posts

I didn't have fibro, but the doctors called it chronic pain syndrome (or something like that). Within a week, I had stopped taking the Cymbalta they gave me (cause it was making me sick) and not too long after that, somebody grabbed me by my arm and I didn't start whining cause i hurt so bad.

I'm finding that the more weight I lose, and the more I work out the less pain I feel and just generally feeling better all around.

My best guess would be, yes. The surgery helped.

I have Fibromyalgia. My doctor has been on me to lose weight forever. I've been researching weight loss's affects on FM pain and fatigue for about as long [on a personal level not as a professional].

Unfortunately, there is no concrete scientific opinion, just with FM itself, for every expert that says weight loss via bariatric surgery will help improve Fibro - there's one that says surgery will not improve Fibromyalgia and may make it worse.

I guess its like treating Fibro, each patient is different.

I have my surgery August 01, 2013.

Good Luck

I have fibro and had surgery in Jan. I've lost 70, with another 20 to goal. I would say that losing has helped me become more mobile, but hasn't reduced the pain. I am jogging and walking every day up to 60min. I grit my teeth and bear the pain. The exercise doesn't seem to make it worse or better, but I feel better mentally.

Because of insurance, I've had to switch from Cymbalta to Gabapentin. My pain was under control with Cymbalta. I tapered off of Cymbalta gradually because it has the worst withdrawal symptoms. Since the switch my pain has become progressively worse. I told my rheumy I would give it 2 more weeks with a higher dosage of Gabapentin, but if that doesn't work we need to get the insurance to approve me to get back on Cymbalta. I've also tried tramadol, mobic, and OTC NSAIDs.

I'm hoping the surgery will help because I've developed allergies to Fibro meds that I've been taking for years. I don't know what is worse, the FM pain, the weight related probems or the allergic reactions.

My mom suffered with Fibromyalgia for years (before they actually identified the Syndrome) and got a bleeding ulcer from the meds they gave her. As a result, she had much of her stomach removed - basically a VGS - she lost over 100 lbs and most of her symptoms went away.

I am having the surgery on Wednesday. I am really hoping it will help with my pain being fibro or back/hip issues.

I have been off all the fibro meds for about a year now & only take pain pills. I tried everything & did not see any relief only side effects & weight gain. I am hoping my stomach heals quickly so I can get back on my supplements.

Had surgery on August 27th, spent one night in hospital. I admit that I was unbelieveably miserable for the first 2 days, but I improved very quickly after that. (I have fibromyalgia and degenerative disc disease affecting my back) Lost 10 lbs pre-surgery, 17 lbs in the 2 weeks since. 4 inches from my waist!!

Haven't been able to exercise much since the surgery - pain level is just now reaching levels where I could consider it. I do get to start swimming, which is the easiest way for me to get exercise without pain.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
