4th day of post op and liquid stage..

Recommended Posts

Homemade broth is so much better if you can make it or have someone else do it. Oh and some people seem to like the sugar free Popsicles.

The Fluid is the most important part if you get dehydrated you can end up back in the hospital!

Try crystal light, mio drops, poweraid zero or things like warm tea. Plain Water is a little hard to drink on the early stages.

I've been struggling with fluids too...mainly because I was gulping too much and then in pain. Read a wonderful tip on here....try putting it in a toddler's sippy cup...it gives you just the right amount so you can't gulp it down AND it teaches you how much to drink out of a regular cup so you aren't drinking too fast.

I'm 4th day post-op too. I haven't had a problem getting liquids in. I have a ninja and it makes ice cubes into snow cone consistency. i have been making a big cup of that, adding some Water and a twist of lemon and eating it with spoon. I am not much on artificial sweetners and always drank Water with lemon, so it is something I enjoy,

The doc prescribed an antacid that cost $400! I was waiting to get a cheaper alternative and woke up at 3:30 am with horrible acid reflux. It is not something I have had very often and it was miserable for a while. I ate several tums and sat up in a chair a while until it was time to take my pain med. Then went back and slept for 6 more hours.

I have never had surgery and have been surprised at the pain. But everyday is better than the one before. I don't want to give you bad advise, but I was told in the hospital that virtually no one is able to get in all of their fluids at first. So, just do your best. We need to be patient with ourselves. If I had not had to have a gigantic hernia repaired at the time of my sleeve, I think it would have had regretted my decision over the last few days. I pray that you will see improvement each day. Hang in there!

Hang in there! I am 5 days post-op and having the same troubles. Just trying to sip as much as I can. I think just gauging how much to sip is one of the biggest chores. I also wish I had found this sight earlier and then I would have some idea about post-op care and could have been better prepared.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
