I had surgery in order to avoid diabetes. My A1c had been climbing for a couple of years to a high of 6.7. I changed my eating habits and was able to get it down to 6.2 before surgery. I was sleeved February 4 and have lost 55 pounds (pre and post). My most recent labs show my A1c at 5.5. I am thrilled. I still have almost 70 pounds to lose but I feel like I have conquered the main enemy. So happy.

Awesome GREAT job!!!, mine was 7.0 at the time of surgery, this week it was 5.5, if I can get it to 5.3 and sustain it, I will get off the remaining 500mg of Metformin that I am taking.

That will be awesome, John. The doctor had started me on metformin but it caused my liver function tests to go wacky so I begged him to let me stop and promised dietary changes and WLS. He let me stop taking it and I kept my word. It appears that the sleeve is working for both of us. I hope you conquer that last .2 percent so you can leave that medicine behind forever.

Congratulations! That's wonderful news! My last test was 6.2 but normally I'm able to keep it below 6. I'm hoping to get rid of the Glumetza myself! Especially since it's not as inexpensive as Metformin! My pills cost me $200 every 3 months!

That's awesome! I am in the same boat as you. I left the hospital with my diabetes in remission and blood sugar levels below 5 mmol/l (80 mg/dl I think). No more metformin.

Don't eat complacent though. Some people seem to have a honeymoon and then they have to start managing things again in a few years. Don't let this scare you but don't stop paying attention either.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
