I am scheduled for surgery in the 24 th of this minty and we have our vacation planned for july4-11. What are y'all's thoughts on this? I know it will take planning, I am ok with that. How long until I can get in the Water after surgery. Thanks for your help!!

Great question! My surgery is July 2, but I live in Canada where we dream all year of summers on the lake!

That is a great question for you to ask your surgeon...he knows how he closes up incisions (dermabond vs traditional sutures) and if you will have a drain. Personally, my limitation on swimming/soaking in a tub was until after the dermabond peeled off, which was about a week post-op...and a few more days for the drain incision to fully scab over.

several people have posted that it is not safe to swim until your incisions completely heal...one of mine has still not completely healed and I am 5 weeks out...I don't know what type of vacation you are planning, but it looks like you will be only about 2 weeks out...I would not have had the energy to go on any kind of trip at that point, but everyone is different...I might have done a vacation where you just basically lounge about, but not anything that had physical activities like swimming

My doctor said that I had to wait at least 2 weeks to submerge my incisions in any Water. I am not sure if that is exactly what you were asking about or not. As far as eating, you will need to know what foods you will be eating and plan to follow your doctors diet to a T. I think you will be fine if you do that, but like the previous posters have said, check with your doctor to see if he thinks you will be ok to travel. Will you be flying or sitting in a car for long periods of time? if so get up and stretch frequently. Sitting for long periods of time can make you more prone to blood clots.

Thanks for all the advice! We are planning for the Bach, so I definitely plan to take if easy just wondered if I would be ok taking a few trips in the Water. Maybe we can push if back a week.

If you can push it back a week, preferably 2, I would suggest that. You won't be as restricted on food, should have more energy and will have a greater opportunity to swim.

I had my 1 week post-op visit with my surgeon yesterday and he said I was OK to swim or take baths but I'm going to give it one more week just to be safe. I have glue (like super glue) over my incisions. It's peeling up but isn't gone yet.

Good luck!

Be sure to find out if is ok to be in the lake or ocean whichever it is. He might say its fine to bathe in a tub but he may not want you in Water that could possibly be contaminated with bacteria.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
