I was informed (CT Hartford Hospital Weightloss Center) that my surgeon will not perform the surgery on any smokers. A smoker must be smoke free for at least 3 months and guarantee they will not go back to smoking because of the risk of developing ulcers. Also, the surgeon will refer any smoker to a program if they need assistance with the cigarette addiction.

For a lot of people, the act of smoking itself is more addictive than the nicotine. If you find yourself to be one of those people, they do sell e-cigs with no nicotine in them. A lot of folks have successfully quit that way :)

Any of you smoke? Im curious what the doctor told you regarding smoking ?

I was given a paper to sign at my initial meeting saying I am aware of the side effects and I would quit. As I am going for my

Last appointment with my

Doctor they sent me for a nicotine test !!! I hear the results this week. I haven't smoked in a while. I just need to hear that I am negative ! My friend got her surgery canceled twice!

They drug test you. Some places.. Like my drs office drug test you no matter what. I was surprised though. The urine sample I had to give wasn't as strict as other drug tests I've had to take for employment. I figured it would be just as strict (accompanied by a nurse, Water shut off, and no personal belongings with you.... ) heck I took my son, stroller and giant diaper bag with me. I could have smuggled all sorts of stuff in with me. Lol

This is my problem! I just need something to do with my hands when I'm driving or being impatient! I need to look into one of these. I threw my actual cigarettes away and bought an ecig then I gave that up.. I don't need or crave the nicotine but my hands get fidgety! Thanks for the info

I quit smoking cigs in November. I use an e-cig now. I call it my binky. Lol. I have all kinds of flavors, cherry, chocolate, black tea, etc...nicotine isn't what I miss, it's the "me time" I get, just sitting outside smoking... So

The e-cig is awesome!!

I quit smoking 48 days ago because my doctor will not do the surgery if you smoke.... The bad part.. I used chantix to help me quit which caused me to gain about 10 pounds. I feel like I am going completely backwards from where I'm supposed to be. I'm still in my six month supervised visits phase though, so hopefully I dont gain anymore. I dont get to have my surgery until October sometime, but I feel soooo much better now that I quit smoking. I quit well before my surgery because who needs two battles at once? One day at a time

My surgeon told me I had to be off cigs for 6 weeks and they test you before surgery and will not do surgery if you are positive. I have been wanting to quit and don't smoke much anyway so this is a great incentive to get me to quit, I'm actually glad they require this.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
