vegasneon 181 Posted June 8, 2013 This is so ridiculous. Sleeved on May 27 and now last night & this afternoon and tonight again I only eat 3 bites and have horrible chest/ gas pain. I think I'm forgetting now to take the tiny tiny bites and to stretch the meal out for a half hour. Once it starts hurting this bad all I can do is take simethicone and lay down for at least an hour. I just stated purée on Tues so I was able to eat without pain two and a half days before I started messing up. I'm so annoyed with myself. Any one with tricks or suggestions? Sent from my iPhone using VST I was sleeved the day after you and you're on pureed already?! My surgeon still has me on full liquids for another few days until two weeks are up. Are all foods causing you pain or just certain ones? 1 Neuanfang reacted to this
fp9107 121 Posted June 8, 2013 Do not be so hard on yourself. It is a process that takes time to figure out. I am 3 1/2 months out and about a month ago I stopped at McDonald's and got a milk shake by the time I got home it all came back up and I finally figured out that I am lactose intolerant to full fat milk. So it is definitely a learning process. Hang in there you can make it through this.
Jr-Castillo 18 Posted June 8, 2013 I'm still on Clear Liquids but my nurse in the hospital and the surgical tech doing my operation actually said they bought baby utensils. They said the size is perfect and helps you take perfect size bites. That's what I'm going to do.
fp9107 121 Posted June 8, 2013 You might try a baby spoon and see if that helps with the portion size. You will get full really quickly after you are first sleeved and some foods you can eat a lot of and will never get that full feeling, mine is cheese puffs so I just avoid then. vegasneon 181 Posted June 8, 2013 Thanks all. I did use baby spoons the first day or two of purée, I didn't even think of that. I eat everything out of a quarter cup measuring cup so I don't over eat and that usually Takeshita half am hour. Don, yea my Drs instructions were full liquid week one and purée weeks 2-4. I mostly eat cottage cheese, yogurt or ricotta cheese but I have had puréed tuna salad and puréed sweet potatoe with no problem. Now today I couldn't eat sweet potatoe that's why I think it is the technique that is lacking. I know it's still early, things will get better. Neuanfang 26 Posted June 8, 2013 Hi I am surprised that you are already advanced to pureed foods. I was sleeved two days after you and am still on solid liquids and that is all my stomach can handle right now. The doc explained it like this, think of your stomach like a brand new baby, you wouldn't put solid food in for some time also in order not to hurt your baby. It makes total sense to me.. from what I understand we are severely swollen inside and that opening needs time to heal in order to let more food in. Just a thought.... and good luck! LipstickLady 25,682 Posted June 8, 2013 I was sleeved May 16 and was allowed puréed food a week from yesterday. Yesterday was the first day I could get anything down without evacuation. It's my thought that you are moving too quickly. I was told to try one new food at a time. I do use a baby spoon and it takes me upwards of an hour to consume an egg or a quarter cup of mashed potatoes. I tried Beans and they DID NOT work. Perhaps the sweet potato is too thick? I don't like sweet potato so I don't know what you would add to "water it down", milk perhaps?
vegasneon 181 Posted June 9, 2013 I did decide to go back to what was on the full liquids so shakes, yogurt & cottage cheese. I'd like to have Soup but it's not appetizing in the heat. I had thought maybe I wouldn't feel so weak & tired if I ate puréed food but it didn't help that anyway. Sent from my iPhone using VST
