Ever since my surgery I have started watching food shows. I never had any interest in it before but now I watch stuff like Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives all the time. Maybe it's a coping mechanism, but let me just say...I can't believe I've spent my time getting fat from McDonald's and nasty fast food places! There's so many things I've never tried or even thought of and all this time I've been eating ****. Maybe if I would have been eating higher quality food I wouldn't even be in this position (just kidding)! But wow, I'm amazed!

I wonder how common this actual is, because I do the same exact thing! Started the week after my surgery and I am glued! Any cooking show, shows about baking... My fav is Diners, Drive ins and Dives! Idk... That and Eat Street (the show about the Food Trucks)... I don't even want any of the food I see on these shows, I'm just obsessed with watching them and watching them make these wonderful looking creations! An seeing the people's faces as they enjoy them.

Soooo weird.

Yes it's the weirdest thing! My boyfriend is like OMG stop watching this stuff its making me hungry and I'm over here having no urge whatsoever to even eat the stuff. But then when people are in front of me with food I want to eat it. The battle between my brain and stomach is crazy right now! Lol

Yea, I'm on that bandwagon too.. I watch tons of food network and cooking channel shows.. My wife always asks how I can watch that and not want to eat.. I just like it.. I used to watch a couple back in the day, but now it's just seriously nuts how many I watch.. lol

I never knew how many shows there actually were either, like I don't necessarily watch the "cooking" shows but I like those mystery diner shows and the shows with the hidden cameras!

OMG. I thought it was just me I'm 9 days post op and the minute I came home that's all I've been watching and the freaky thing is I'm not even hungry. Still I'm my liquid diet and you think that watching these cooking shows would make me hungry. The brain is a very strange thing.

Same here.. Chopped, eat street, mystery diners, giving you the buisiness, I don't watch the strait up cooking shows with the exception of not my momma's meals.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
