My new surgery date is Jan 10th. My job ended earlier than expected so I called Dr. Cobourn's office to see if there were any cancellations and low and behold he could offer me a Jan date. I took it and now the panic I was putting off for the month of Feb has set in. Optifast doesn't start until the 27th so I have one more x-mas "turkey dinner, unzip my pants and look around for a nice place to take a nap" feast to look forward to.:hungry:

I have to get myself one of those fancy schmancy ticker things.

A special thanks to Argon for just being Argon.:clap2:

Okay, I tried an Optifast early and ya...I foresee consumption problems. Anybody think that the seatbelt on the flight home may cause a problem? I know it not in the exact same spot but could there be tenderness and swelling?

Hi Mookie

Congrats on your new date, I'm very excited for you. Dr. Cobourn is amazing!!!

Ya, the Optifast is, well, not the greatest, but could be alot worse. I had to be on opti-fast for 3 weeks, here's some tricks I did to help cope. First I took 21 little post-it stickies up on my cupboard. Every time I drank a meal I would rip one off (sometimes ripped it to shreads). It was nice to see the posties getting less and less, it was a visual thing for me. Then I only ate something once, on the third night I think. Celery, I believe. It was easier to not eat anything at all, then to eat. The chewing just made me want to eat more. Last but not least drink it blended in a blender, and definately with ice to make it really, really cold.

Don't forget to lean on us as much as possible. That really, really helped me. Thats what were here for. Well, and to harass the hell out of Yoda!!. lol

Good Luck Mookie!!! Your gonna do great!!!!

HI mOOKIE

I flew home 2 days after my surgery and the seatbealt was not an issue. But if you can bring a small travel pillow it might help you be more comfortable. But mookie it really is not that painful!! and they give you drugs!! best wishes to you!

Oh yeah, same... seatbelt was not a problem. It sits alot lower than your incisions will be. They'll give you sh!t if you don't have a pillow with you to put under your seatbelt when you leave the clinic, so have that on the plane, just in case you're uncomfortable. (it's nice just to have something pressed against your belly anyways, in case you're feeling like your guts might fall out.)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
