This seems like a lot of food

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op and am in the pureed stage. I'm looking ahead at the solid foods stage and meal plan from my doctor, and this seems like a lot of food in terms of the stomach is only 4-6 ounces in size, but each meal seems like it is more than 4-6 ounces. Does the stomach eventually tolerate this amount of food after a while?

Breakfast - 1/2 small banana, 2 egg whites, 1 slice whole wheat toast, 1 tsp margarine

lunch - 3 ounces tuna, 1 tbsp light mayo, 3 saltines, 1/2 orange

dinner - 3 ounces fish, 1/4 cup cooked carrots, small baked potato, 1 tsp margarine

Each meal just seems like it is more than the size of the sleeve. Thoughts?

Thoughts: Eat very slowly & start with your Protein. Odds are you won't get through even all your protein. If you do, eat a little veggie. Yes, eventually you will be able to eat all that at once. I am 6 months out & a vegetarian. So, my meal plan varies a little from yours. Your listed Breakfast is something I would eat & I don't think that I could handle that much until just recently.

This might be what you WILL be able to eat at 6 months or more. I don't think at 8 months I could have eaten all of that either. As the other poster states eat your Protein first then your veggies.

I was given the guideline 1/2 cup at a sitting. So if you imagine the whole meal chewed up (a little gross I know) it might only be half a cup. But if you leave anything behind, let it be the carbs, not the Protein. Good luck! I start the soft stage Tuesday and I have some of the same concerns.

I can easily eat that amount now, but at a few weeks out, I often couldn't eat 2 oz. of firm Protein at a meal. I didn't eat bread for months. My meal plan back then was more like this:

Wake up- 1 cup soy milk mixed with 1 packet Starbucks instant Decaf,

Breakfast - 1/2 fat free greek yogurt made into a smoothie with a little OJ, some Water, a couple strawberries, and Splenda

lunch - 1-2 ounces tuna, 1 tbsp light mayo, 1 saltines

Afternoon snack: Light cheese stick

dinner - 1-2 ounces fish, 1/8 cup cooked vegetables

Before bed: Protein shake

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
