ladybug112000 114 Posted June 7, 2013 I have been through a series of testing. I've seen many doctors, Cardiologist, pulmonologist, psychologist, etc. I've done testing like EKG, chest X-ray, PFT, etc. I'm now at the nuclear stress test and I'm terrified!!!! What is a nuclear stress test???
girlrfriday 71 Posted June 7, 2013 Funny you should ask! I just sat at the hospital this morning with my mom who was having a Nuclear Stress Test.. it sounds much scarier than it is...basically the will put in an IV and inject a very low amount of radiation into you.. then half an hour later they will take pictures of your heart ..then they will put you on a tread mill...get your heart rate up and then do one more injection and take pictures again! I'm not sure that yours will be exactly the same but I'm sure it will be very similar
ladybug112000 114 Posted June 7, 2013 Okay, you are right it's not as bad as it sounds! The name is terrifying!!! Thank you so very much!!!
ElaineB 207 Posted June 8, 2013 I hope it went well. I just had my stress test today, but was able to do it on the treadmill. They told me if I couldn't do it on the treadmill or my heart rate wouldn't go up (yeah right) they would convert to the nuclear stress test. I didn't know what it was either, but I knew I didn't want it:). Let us know how it went. Mine was awesome. I was on the treadmill with no shirt and no bra. Really?!! I'm 43, have nursed three babies for years and look like a national geographic special. It should have been illegal! But it's over.
ladybug112000 114 Posted June 8, 2013 Holy Moses, I think I'm even more frightened? Lol. I have mine on the 17-18. They said it would take two days. No shirt, no bra....what?!?!?!? ????
ElaineB 207 Posted June 8, 2013 Mine took less than an hour. 3 minutes on that treadmill and my heart rate was up there. Sad but true.
ladybug112000 114 Posted June 8, 2013 Why in the world would I have to be there two days? Hmmmm ... Not going to lie, I'm nervous!
ShariM735 189 Posted June 8, 2013 I had a two day stress test. The first day they put in the IV and injected a small amount of radio active particals. You wait a while and they take some pictures. Nothing to it. The next day, they did the same thing, but also injected a drug that increased my heart rate for a couple minutes and monitored on an EKG. Then took more pictures. It is painless and not bad at all. No treadmill and only had to remove my bra, but kept my top on. Sent from my iPhone using VST

That really calms my nerves and makes me feel much better. Did it make you feel tired or wired?
ShariM735 189 Posted June 8, 2013 It made me a little tired later in the day. Had a headache after the chemical induced increased heart rate, but they gave me an injection and it worked right away. Sent from my iPhone using VST
