So im having surgery on June 28 with Dr Garcia, I really didn't have to complete a pre op diet but I'm doing so anyway. (HCG Injections) wondering is this a bad thing or what???

I've done HCG, and I'm not a big fan. Didn't really do anything except make my wallet thinner. I would think eating a sensible balanced diet would help you the best. Get started figuring out your Proteins, start pounding back the Water, because dehydration is b***h. Maybe a week out go full on liquids and go from there. Good luck with your surgery!

yes, the pre op diet is a drag. but it helps to shrink your liver so the surgeon has an easier time. You can do it!

Try not to think of it as a drag. Think of the good thing you are doing for yourself. Better to get used to all liquid now then after the surgery when you are uncomfortable. Plus as was already stated get your liver ready!

Be proud of yourself for doing this very hard thing and don't even think about food.

I've asked this on another thread, but here goes again. Pre-op diet with Dr. Garcia says 2 Protein Shakes per day with a lite dinner. Is anyone doing low carb, low cal, low fat? Instructions were vague.

Good Question! I have to start Dr. Garcia's diet next month. I found the Lean shakes at GNC to be really tasty. They are 170 calories, 25 grams of Protein, 2 grams of sugar and 6 total carbs. It keeps you full a long time and comes in chocolate, strawberry and vanilla bean! They come 4 in a pack for about $10!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
