Why should you eat slowly and not overeat?

Recommended Posts

Well if you're me, here's why...

Because if you eat quickly and eat more than you should, you will feel like someone kicked you in the kidneys. And then like that same person is trying to pull your stomach out through your chest with a rusty hook. And then like you're cramping so hard your body might just permanently stay folded in half. And then, once the worst part passes, you'll just feel vaguely like a toddler is punching your middle.

And that's why you should eat sloooowly and listen for the signals that you're full. :D

Or... you're just into the whole pain thing? :P

7 weeks post op and I still totally struggle with this. My eyes are so much bigger than my stomach (probably literally now haha). It only takes one extra bite for me to feel like I have an alien in my chest trying to get out. Daily struggle but I'll still take it over being able to finish my plate and my kids any day!

Another very accurate description!

Oh I wish... Feels like I never had surgery. I have only twice had a twinge like I was overeating/to big/too fast. One time I stopped the other I kept going. Nothing!! Not sure if its because I had a band previous and my body is used to the pain and this is nothing or what.

That said I measure my food and I am very full about 20 min after I finish eating. Probably need to cut back the amount slightly. (Usually measure out about 1/4-1/2 of a cup of food at a sitting.

My "emergency shut-off" has symptoms suspiciously similar to dumping syndrome. Makes me wonder...

I can totally relate to the "one extra bite" thing. Usually, I just feel full when I am done. After 3 or 4 ounces, I feel like I ate a holiday dinner. But once, I was eating refried Beans at a restaurant and I took that one bite too many because they were soooooooo good and BAM! Nausea, sweating, sliming. I was afraid I was going to have to bolt for the bathroom. I sat still and continued to breathe. After a minute or so, it passed, but it was a close thing. I am going to be wary of those beans in the future.

The beans are my favorite thing with Mexican food. I have to literally saturate them with salt on them to keep myself from that one last and over the line bite.

Yep, it's a band thing. We old bandsters are so used to the pained feeling that we stop paying attention. It's a good thing for us to measure everything and pay close attention. Still I believe that the band I much better to live with than that hairy-molled ugly b#%ch Brunhilda (my name for the band that gave me so much trouble)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
