How much exercise is too much?

Recommended Posts

I currently walk average 40 minutes a day, 6 days a week. I have noticed on this forum that some people exercise a lot more. I understand you need to move and exercise, but I don't want that to become my addiction in place of food. I truly love walking and feel that is the best way for me. I was just wondering what everyone was told they should do from their health care professionals?

I have been told that I work out too much by my doctor and personal trainer so I have cut it back from 7 days a week to 6. Sometimes I do 7 when I am bored but most of the time its just a run. I plan to cut back a little more after my race on July 20th.

Since I work out so much my doctor has upped my Protein intake to 130-145 grams a day.

I feel like if I don't work out I am not doing everything I can to help myself. Its so weird after surgery I became a different person Healthwise. Before I would play video games for hours and be happy. I havet touched my xbox since a week after surgery.

Good luck,

John

I think they're worried about something like Exercise Anorexia...here's the wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypergymnasia

Seems crazy...seeing as where we're coming from, but not unreasonable...

I also work out 6 days a week. Wednesdays are my rest day. Just like TAPSNAP I try to get in 132 grams of Protein and make sure I stay hydrated. My workouts are usually 1 hour of cardio and 1/2 of weights. Love the people at my gym and it's my social network. I would rather do that then put a cupcake in my mouth.

My doctor said he wanted me walking two miles a day (4 weeks post op) and to work up to more miles. It sounds like you're doing great to me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
