Let me tell ya...it is a snap! By the time you get in the surgical suite you are only awake for like 30 secs if that...then you wake up and get sent to your room...I was very sore...cant say pain just very sore...but with each day that diminishes...of course you might be like some of my friends that had ZERO pain or soreness.....believe me I was jealous! But I have to say I wounldnt change a thing!

Hi.... What seemed to help me is simple really.... Whenever I would question the decision to have the surgery done I would ask myself a very simple question. Why am I doing this? For me it was to save my life. I know that sounds extreme. But, tht is how I felt. I knew I could not continue on the road I was on. I had tried everything and could not keep the weight off. Surgery was the next step to freedom.

And honestly, it worked! I am free from the drive for food. I eat when my stomach feels empty. I never felt that before... My stomach was never empty. It is true freedom. You wanted to know what to expect after.... Well is it for me. Freedom!

During the first month of the healing process I went through periods of discomfort. It took time to get used to having a small stomach. However, you will adjust... You will learn how to fit these changes into your life. Things settle and become normal again.

Honestly, you will look back on this time and wonder why you got the jitters in the first place. I think sometimes we fear the unknown. We are all different in our reasons for having the surgery done. So what ever the reasons are you want this surgery... Think on those things as the nervous jitters try to mess with your thinking. I hope this helps!

Best wishes Tina

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
