oatmeal is on my list of approved foods (3 weeks post-op) and the weight control stuff is even recommended (because of the extra Protein vs regular oatmeal). So I decided to try some. Took about 3 bites and that was it. Anyone ever had a "stitch" in the side from running? You know, what feels like a mild cramp under your ribs? Nothing big or worrisome, but enough that I knew I didn't want any more oatmeal! LOL

And since having that oatmeal around noon, I haven't been the least bit hungry. I know I need to eat (or at least drink) more, but gosh...that couple of bites of oatmeal told me who was boss real quick! ;)

I am almost 8 months out and starting maintenance next week. Oatmeal is the one thing I am dying to have...I hope I can handle it.

I know this post almost a couple of weeks old already, but I had a really bad experience with oatmeal this morning. It's on my soft foods list, and my dietician suggested it probably wouldn't cause a problem if I made it kind of soupy, with lots of milk. At first I thought it settled just fine in my stomach, but about 20 minutes after breakfast I got very nauseous, and soon came the stomach cramps and dry heaves. I had to spend an hour in bed to feel normal again. :(

Do you think maybe it was the milk? I'm having some issues with dairy!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
