can you drink alcohol after your body has been banded and healed?

Im in the process of getting medically cleared for the lap-band. I was just curious because i am still young and enjoy going out for drinks with friends, can i still drink alcohol without feeling too full? i know we are not supposed to drink it because of it being empty calories but is it possible to do once in a while?

I can, it goes through like any other liquid. I do find that I can feel the effects with much less then before surgery. And like you said, it's empty calories, and I also find I'm more likely to make bad food choices if I've been drinking. So for me, it's once in a while only. Usually a glass of wine before dinner.

I drink wine and liqour.

My favorite bourbon and coke is no more :)

BUT i found that bourbon madras (cran an oj) or bourbon and cidar or apple juice are great!

I know juice has alot of sugar but i have to have SOME kind of life. Being a bartender means i had to adapt... :) So far so good

I do rum and coke (the splenda kind) It's a rare treat, and like others have said it takes much less to get tipsy, than before. ~Mandy

I started drinking again about 1 month after surgery. Mostly wine and I have tried a martini with no problem. I think as long as it's in moderation you're ok. Just stay away from the carbonation...which makes me sad because I used to be a beer drinker. :)

I do ok with carbonation as long as I let it sit for a few minutes before drinking it. I only have a carbonated drink every now and then, not even once a month, but for a special treat, I was told it was fine. ~Mandy

My doc says absolutely no carbonation, so I'm scared to try it. I know that some bandsters do fine with it though. It's totally a personal thing.

I drink straight scotch, use to drink beer also but told NOT to....something to do with carbonation and bloating. The scotch hasn't affected me but I'm careful not to get to the point where my better judgement will be imparied and cause me to make bad food choices.

One of my new year's resolutions is to not drink so much scotch...LOL...its the way I wind down after a day serving in the restaurant...works good for me. But, our restaurant and home are in the same building so we like to go out to our local bar where all our friends hang out....just for a change of scenery.....they serve only fast food so I'm so careful to just sip on my drink and not get too loaded. Fast food does not work well with me anyhow but no point on bringing on a bad pb'ing episode for no good reason.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
