What do you tell people on your job?

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for sleeve surgery on June 24th and I haven't told anyone outside my family. I'm not ashamed of having the surgery but folks at my job can be so cruel and I've heard them talk about others who have had gastric or lap band and they haven't been nice!! I know it's nobody's business but I just don't know what I will say when i'm asked specifically, did you have surgery. Has anyone else encountered this situation and if so, how did you handle it?

Tell 'em to suck it. HA!

Tell them that you are eating right and exercising. It's true, right?

Hey, girl.. Mines true too :P

Why tell them anything? Just because someone asks me a question, doesn't require me to answer. I would answer with a question such as why would you ask such a personal question? They will most likely answer it with, well I'm just curious. Then just say, yes, I can see that. Then walk away.

If you are not comfortable with that, when someone asks how you are losing, just say one, pound at a time, or the hard way. Both true.

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. You're right, that is true..being on a restricted diet and exercising. I just hate hearing people talk negative about other folks and maybe in a way I feel like a failure because I could lose some weight but never could keep it off. I've been on a rollercoaster my entire life and I'm ready to be off of it. I have taken the steps for a forever change and I'm ready to rock and roll.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
