MaddieJ 82 Posted June 5, 2013 I had the lap band surgery 8 years ago and I came out of the surgery so hungry... in my drugged state I asked the nurses for food! After being on a clear liquid diet for a week I went into surgery dying of hunger and came out that way too. Will it be better with the sleeve surgery? newat52 1,613 Posted June 5, 2013 Gotta admit, I kind of chuckled at this. I woke up and when I realized where I was all I could think is WTF have I done? Did I REALLY do this? Then it was like, yes, sleep. sleep is good. :-) Hunger never entered my mind. No telling where our mind takes us. :-) Good luck to you! You will do great! 1 Kristen125 reacted to this
FeeIsMe2 508 Posted June 5, 2013 food was the last thing I was thinking of -- I was thirsty though. 2 Kristen125 and ebonisekim reacted to this
MaddieJ 82 Posted June 5, 2013 Thank you....I just couldn't stand the thought of going through another weight loss surgery and coming out hungry! It's embarrassing to ask for food as the anesthesia wears off. I just can't wait for this surgery! 41 days but who's counting!
Flup 48 Posted June 5, 2013 food was the furthest thing from my mind when I woke up...and it still is, 48 hours later...

kchristian 64 Posted June 5, 2013 The thought of food after surgery was dreadful. I was thirsty, but they brought me a big thing of Water and let me rinse my mouth out with it as long as i spit it out until after my leak test the following day. That was a lifesaver!! I don't know what I would have done without that. My guess is, if you are even tempted to eat or feel hungry, then the surgeon didn't actuall do your sleeve! MaddieJ 82 Posted June 5, 2013 So we're y'all starving before your surgery, from the clear liquid pre-op diet?
Andi 78 Posted June 5, 2013 Not hungry at all, but oh so thirsty. I was dreaming of iced tea (literally!). When it came time that I could have some broth & Jello I didn't end up eating it in the hospital. I wasn't hungry prior to the surgery. For the pre-op liquid diet I had to use the shakes from the hospital. They weren't cheap (New Direction) but they had all my Vitamins I needed & I wasn't hungry at all while on them. gmanbat 5,889 Posted June 5, 2013 Not hungry before or after. I was preoccupied with living through the operation. At 63 the odds were a bit lower. The first thing I did half way out of the anesthesia was mumble out a joke, my way of celebrating. It's the way of my family, never waste a serious situation by being serious. LipstickLady 25,682 Posted June 5, 2013 I haven't been hungry since my surgery day of May 16th. I dread the thought of food and can rarely get in 300 calories a day. Ugh. It's starting to worry me.

Sounds like your ghelin took a big hit. A good thing if you can work past it. You probably know you have to work past hunger. We are used to eating because of it, at first you have to eat with it's absence. It's important to build up the Protein intake when you can. Muscle must be preserved so your metabolism isn't slowed. Sorry if I'm lecturing. 2 LipstickLady and newat52 reacted to this
