It's starting to look like this is really going to happen for me and I couldn't be more excited and scared at the same time!! I watched a video last night of a band removal and I couldn't believe how bad the stomach looked under the band after only 2 years!! I've had my band for 6 and I've been rough on it so I can't even imagine how bad mine looks !! I would love to do both procedures in one step but now I see why sometimes that isn't possible. I plan on getting a complete unfill for a couple of months before going in, I figure that can only help. My question is how long should I allow for recovery time? I will have to plan accordingly to take off work. When I was banded, I had surgery on Friday and went back to work Monday with no problems at all. I know this is more intensive surgery so I'm just wondering how long it took for others to be back to their daily routine?

My surgeon goes by the job you do. I don't do any heavy lifting so he said I could return after 1 week but I took 2 and I'm glad. I was good after 1 but still tired and trying to learn how to eat and get a schedule going. It is like trying to learn to eat all over again. Most people I know have taken between 1 and 4 weeks.

My surgeon said most people take about two weeks, unless they have a very physically demanding job. I'm currently planning one full week off, then a week of half days, but I have enough flexibility at my work that I can take more or less time according to what I feel I need. My job is mostly sitting at a desk.

I pretty much blocked off a month, was back on a limited basis after 2 weeks. But needed to go home and take a nap/rest at lunch for the next two weeks. I'm glad I blocked it off since I had removal complications

When I had the band I did it on a Friday and went back on Tuesday. For the sleeve I took 5 days off and went back to work on day 6. I think I could have gone back sooner if I really needed. I have a desk job so I sit all day. I didn't find much of a difference between the band surgery and this one as far as pain and recovery time. I did have the band removed and the sleeve done all in 1 surgery. Everyone is different though so it all depends on the person. Good luck!!!

For me...I was 6 yrs. w/my band and the removal & revision were all one operation. I teach and thought maybe 2 wks out, but my Dr. was firm on 3. Now...I discovered that he found a hiatal hernia in there and had to repair this also. I'm doing very well, but am discovering the recovery this time has been a bit slower so the 3 weeks has been good. Like having the flu, I felt up to things but discovered that my energy would get zapped. I think depending on the demands of your job (lifting, people interactions/demands, etc.) you could decide. Remember the important thing is to HEAL...so this revision will allow you the best success. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
