Pregnancy & Lap Band

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice?

I am 33 years old and really want to get the Lap Band procedure. But I dont have children now and will have them in the next 4 years. Should I get the band after I have a child or before? My period isnt regular due to my weight so I think it will be a challange to get pregnant before. I am just unsure about if I should go ahead and get the surgery now or wait until after I have a child. I will be pretty heavy after having a baby, thats for sure!

I am in the same situation, I went through this and decided for myself that I will have the procedure first, then get pregnant. I think most doctors agree that this is the healthy way as it is easier to get pregnant when you are a healthy weight.

Hey ya kitty...by loosing the weight first you will have plenty more energy to handle a bouncing bub! I already have two wee ones but would love more eventually the lapband will not hinder my chances nor be a problem to have in while pregnant so my advise would be sort yourself out first and bubs will follow...probably sooner than later as it has been proven that women at a healthy weight tend to full pregnant easier than those who are not. I look forward to hearing what you decide...best wishes!

Hi Kitty, I just have to say from my own experience, that I could not get pregnant until I lost weight. I did well while I was pregnant and did not gain much...but after baby...did I gain the weight. I think you should get the band, loose weight and get healthy, you can aways have your fill removed and eat...small portions (healthy portions)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
