What did you find to be the easiest exercise on your joints, back, legs, knees, etc.

I know I won't be this heavy for long, but even just walking is tough...

I do deep Water aerobics. It's very easy on the joints. I started out at 375+ but now I'm down to 336. I bought a plus size swim shirt and swim pants on Amazon and they cost about $148 minus shipping and handling. I'm just not ready to get into a swimsuit. I hope this helps. Good luck!

I started with walking. At first, 5 minutes on a treadmill seemed like too much. Now I do about a mile a day, sometimes more. I'm currently 385, started at 459. The key is to do more than you did the day before - more time, more distance, more speed - whatever you can manage that particular day.

I also do strength training with free weights. helps get your blood pumping and increase muscle mass, which in turn boosts your metabolism.

Good luck!

At 400 pounds I found the elliptical very forgiving on my body. I never got a chance to do any swimming but you'd be hard pressed to find a better exercise.

I started at 360 which is not quite 375+, but defnately up there in the extra fat category. There was no way I could run at this weight, but agree with BTB: the elliptical is very good on the joints and knees when carrying a lot of weight like this. Honestly, I found daily walks to be supper effective at weight loss after surgery and something I could get better at one day at a time. Just getting out for 10 minutes after surgery is going to help you. Slowly you can add distance, time and speed. Slowly. Listen to your body. That is very important as it will naturally want to do more challenging stuff as the days go by.

The elliptical is easy on the joints but hell on calories. It's butt kicking cardio and I love/hate it!

I do 10 miles a day/5 days a week on a recumbent exercise bike and it's been great on my bad knee.

Where did you buy your swimming shirt and pants from? I got two swimming suits from an awesome website for about 48 dollars plus free shipping! It's a really good website!

I started out with walking in place for 3 mins, various times a day. I also did a walking in place video, and some wii games (I found one that would let me do exercises without the board). I now swim an hour a day, and then do my own Water aerobic with different exercises I've found online. Amazingly walking in a pool is a wonderful exercise! It helps develop your core. Walking with weights is even better!

Walking in a pool might be easier for you. I'd highly suggest the elliptical for something low impact - if you can only do 5 minutes, no problem - just do 5 minutes every day. In a month, go for 10. Exercise doesn't have to be hardcore at this point.

I purchase my swim pants and shirt off of Amazon. Here are links to the items I purchased. http://www.amazon.com/Plus-Size-Rash-Guard-Shirt/dp/B00BAC64TS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1372037556&sr=8-3&keywords=plus+size+swim+shirt http://www.amazon.com/Plus-Size-Swim-Pants-Swimming/dp/B00BACKWXW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1372037584&sr=8-1&keywords=plus+size+swim+pants

I also second the swimming and deep Water aerobics. It's possible to get into both the fat burning and cardio training zones in the water with minimal risk to joints, etc. I had knee surgery when I was 19, and the pool has made it possible for me to maintain the level of cardiovascular fitness I have; every doctor I've been to is absolutely shocked when they discover I've got normal blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, I'm not diabetic, and my heart is very healthy. I usually smile and remind them that not all fat people are completely couch-bound; after all, we float really well :P

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
