I had my Lapband removed on 5/28/13 and revised to VSG. I was in the hospital for 5 days and have been home trying to recover since. I had a fall backwards at the hospital where I was certain I split my staples or new stomach, but apparently I didn't. I believe because of the fall I am healing less rapidly than others. My one week follow up appointment is tomorrow morning. I have been up and walking faster every day every few hours. My incisions (5 in all) are unbelievably painful when standing from seated and sitting from standing. I have been drinking as much liquid as possible and am eager to meet with my surgeon tomorrow to hear his opinion on my progress. Is it normal to have such massive pain this far out? I've been reading of people who experience no pain even a day after surgery. I feel like I am in so much more pain than anyone else that has had this surgery. I want to be sure I am on the right track but I know I will be physically unable to function when my pain medicine is gone. I was only prescribed a weeks worth of pills. I am extremely concerned I will not get a renewal of pain medication tomorrow and I feel this is also causing anxiety that is hindering my healing process. How are those of you who had your revision the same date as me doing?

Thanks for listening.

Some of us just have more pain than others. I was one. Do you have a drain? Only used my pills for a day or two after the drain came out, but it took about 4 weeks to have me feeling back to normal, and I must admit to being tired and a little depressed today.... Yesterday was 5 weeks!

I had the revision to sleeve all-in-one and I was out of it for about 2 weeks....in pain and walking slow, like an old lady, I felt like the world was moving at lightning speed, while I was inching along. To make matters worse, a lady who was sleeved the same day as me, had her one week appt. on the same day and while I was moving at a snail's pace and sitting down very gingerly, she was zooming around the doctor's office and feeling fine. She had driven herself home from the hospital, she said. We are all, definitely, different. I stopped taking pain meds after about 9-10 days and at 2 1/2 weeks, I, was getting around pretty good. It gets easier. Hang in there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
