Before I did the gastric sleeve surgery. I was depressed and didn't do nothing all day long. Just eat and sleep. I have no job. Trouble finding one. However, I did the surgery January 18, 2013 . Well the dr said that I will feel different and be motivated once the pounds I lose. However, I'm 5 months since I did the surgery and I'm still the same way as before or even worse.i lost 50 pounds but I'm depressed and still eat a lot, junk food all day and lay all day. I have no motivation at all. Am I the only one here that has this problem? And I'm not losing weight because I eat alot and junk food all day. Uggg I give up. And I'm 26 year old female. I should live life. Not be home all day depressed.

I suggest you seek a Mental Health counselor and start looking for the reason for your depression. You may need some thing to get you motivated.....

It's time to get yourself to see a psychiatrist for some antidepressants to help with your depression. This is a long term depression and you need something to help balance your chemical inbalance. No shame, no guilt, just a different path to success and a happy life style. you are so young a beautiful and now it's time to start to enjoy life. Let me know how your doing when you follow through. :) food is not your friend, you need it to survive.... :)

you need to talk to a psych doctor about your depression.. and your other problem.. well quit eating junk food.. you are setting yourself up for failure.. im 5mo out too.. and ive lost 94lbs... I know that everyone loses at a different rate.. Im not young like you are.. but hey 50lbs is nothing to sneeze at.. it could be more if you just go back to the drawing board and start over with the diet.. get your Protein in.. and drink 64oz of Water a day.. then you need to get up...and go out and find a job.. walking helps.. go down town and walk around.. cant find a job if you arent looking. sorry if that seems harsh.. but you made the post and opened yourself up to everyone.. but you really need to do something.. sitting there and feeling sorry for yourself wont help one bit.. get up and get out.. there is so much out there in the world for you.. you can do it.. I know you can.. you had the courage to have the surgery..and you have lost 50lbs.. now dry your tear.. get up off the couch..and get moving.. you can do it :) that food you are eating is bad for you.. if you can afford to eat like that.. then you can afford to buy the right food choices too.. do it TODAY! dont throw this opportunity away.. you are getting a do over..and you need to take it.. now.. get up and get going.. life is waiting for you.. dont let it pass you by again.. Hurry up and get going.. NOW! make some calls fill out some applications.. go to unemployment.. find an agency to help you. YOU CAN DO THIS.. hurry girl.

I been on meds for depression And anxiety for years and I stopped it before the surgery. The meds make it worse for me. And it doesn't help the psychiatrist don't help either. Spending all that money for meds and psychiatrist when they don't help.

If one therapist didn't work for you try another. There are many out there and you have to find the one that works for you. I have a fabulous Social Worker (T) and I'm not ashamed to tell anyone. My T has helped me tremendously and will continue after I have my surgery. Please seek the help. Do it for your health.

Depression is a serious issue. And I'm sorry that your surgeon lead you to believe the sleeve would help or take it away. They (weight and depression) are two different things. I know, I have been living with diagnosed depression for 20 years.. That is 20 years of being both fat and skinny.

When you are in the midst of it, it is hard to dig out, but you must.

Sometimes it takes a different doctor or a different medicine. I would start small and call you primary doctor and make an appointment. Tell them what you just told us and ask for guidance. Make yourself go out once a day even if its just in your own yard to get some air and sun.

You are young and have so much life ahead of you, please don't let this consume you. There is help you just have to reach out for it.

I totally understand what all of you are saying. I been trying different doctors and I tried all different kinds of meds and still none of them work. I tried this out to see of anyone else has this problem because I don't know what else to do.

Keep on looking. You will eventually find the right Dr for you. Please don't give up. I also have been living with depression and anxiety for years but as the others say yo have to keep searching for answers. I know it feels like there is no end but you will see once you get on the right meds. good luck to you.

I suggest seeking professional help from a psychiatrist who specializes in speaking with patients who have had WLS. Someone who has been through it themselves would be a good idea.

But now you are off all meds! I know how that goes, it starts out ok.... Then it slowly gets worse and worse until you end up hopeless and saying nothing will work.

They are not miracle workers (meds) but they even you out a bit so you can get some perspective.

I know it's hard I've tried so many and have quit so many times. But it just gets worse! So something is better than nothing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
