My husband been really supportive but at points I know he was tweaking out :-( this surgery is very emotionally psychologically and physically draining. It's going to make you feel a bit crazy..depressed..sad..and oh so tired! As long as you realize that and KNOW that it'll pass it should be ok..just talk about it a bit..? -ps..I'm five weeks out today :-)

Mine is supportive as well but he still had his moments. The second night I was home he left me with the 3 kids and went out to eat by himself and continued to do this multiple times until I lost it on him. He would have a few beers and come back and be quite rude. It was like he couldn't handle any of it for a while. But now that the burden of the children isn't on him anymore, and he's decided he wants to lose weight as well, he's more normal again.

So far my wife has been very supportive taking off to be at meeting/appointment/dr visit. However, she has been slipping in here and there "Are you going to leave me or cheat when you lose this weight". It was in a laughing joking way the 1st few times but seems to be getting a little more stern as I grow closer to surgery. I hope she really doesn't feel this way.

My husband keeps "joking" about this too. He himself is in great shape and good looking, so I'm not sure why so insecure.

I just wish my wife and kids would stop eating my special food and stick to theirs.

WLS has been known to rock the boat in some marriages. It changes many aspects of what was once "normal". Our changes affect everyone around us in a rippling effect. Guessing that the jokes are their way of vocalizing fears without pursuing the issue too much.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
