lsereno 2,525 Posted June 4, 2013 My program specifically mentioned that lots of people had issues with starches. I love really good bread and I did eat a bite of crust if we were out at a restaurant with great bread. My program recommended saltine crackers or very-well toasted bread. I didn't eat much bread, rice, Pasta, or potatoes till I was at least six months out. After about a year out, I could eat it without issues (not much though). Mrs Havelock 154 Posted June 4, 2013 White bread in particular swells up in your stomach. Try toasted wholemeal instead.
NMJG 1,266 Posted June 4, 2013 I have read on other forums and doctor's sites that bread, especially white bread, is quite uncomfortable. Toast or crackers were recommended. I couldn't find an answer why that is so, but Mrs. Havelock's suggestion about swelling makes sense.

awifeinmichigan 233 Posted June 4, 2013 I am praying that I can get rid of my bread addiction prior to my op date in Sept. Ohhhh weee it is so hard!
Skinnypie 66 Posted June 4, 2013 Yes! I've only had it once and it felt like a brick in my tummy... Thank goodness, I don't touch the stuff!! Crackers are ok though. I buy the mini saltines to eat with chicken or tuna from time to time, they allow for slower, smaller bites & I eat a lot less of them ( there are 17 in a serving, 70 cals. 11g carbs) I usually eat about half a serving
vsginnj 415 Posted June 5, 2013 Actually reduced fat triscuits have pretty much replaced bread in my life.
oldskoolsooz 24 Posted June 12, 2013 I am six weeks out tomorrow. I can eat bread though I'm trying to control myself, it's my downfall :-) I have eaten the Arnold's multigrain flat 100 calorie "bun", an inch of birthday cake and wheat bread with no issues. I have toasted the bread all but once, again no issues. This makes me nervous but Protein first then everything else after I'd the mantra I try to follow..
