All the Different Phases... How long did it last for u?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! I'm wondering how long did your liquid phase last and then mushy foods phase, etc...?? I know each dr is different. Im 6 days post op ~ lost 10 lbs so far since surgery :)!

My liquids phase lasts 3 weeks and I absolutely hate all the Protein shakes (way too sweet!!!) and Meal Replacement options that were given to me (ill be talking to my surgeon about it today).

My surgeon had you starting on purée right out of the hospital for 4 weeks, then soft for 2, then regular diet.

I am 4 days post op and I have Clear Liquids for 7 days, then full liquids for 7 more days. Then puree 1 week, then soft foods 1 week. Good luck with your talk with your surgeon. Can you have cream Soups with no chunks, like cream of Tomato Soup?

Clear for 4 days post-op, then full liquids (like drinkable yogurt) for 3 days. Then puree for 1 week, soft foods for 2 weeks. So only a month of modified eating...at the end of 4 weeks, I can start "testing" solid foods.

And according to their definitions, pureed was anything I wanted to blend, and soft is anything I can cut with a fork.

I didn't like the shakes either. But I decided to grow-up and be mature about it. I realized that they are packed with nutrients and Protein and stuff the body really needs while losing weight rapidly. I am 20 weeks post-op and I still drink 2 of the Bariatric Fusion shakes per day. I have lost 86 pounds of weight. No Hair loss. Cuz I get the protein in. I followed my surgeon's dietary recommendations to the letter. I have now adjusted my taste buds- and the shakes don't bother anymore. I am grateful for them. Good luck.

Thanks! I can... The office said I can have this Tomato or chicken flavored Soup that's thick and white. I bought that one pre-op and tried it and it was disgusting :( I'm at a loss bc I'm not getting enough Proteins or any nutrients and I'm so weak but at the same time, I walk a lot by nature so sometimes while walking (shopping, etc...) I actually have to stop every so often to rest or lean on something.

That's awesome! I know we are all different... I tried sucking it up and just drinking them, but realized that I'm only drinking one a day bc of how slow I tend to drink it. I have no problem with light Soups (chicken broth) and LOVE my crystal lights and all the different favors. I'm going to try to get the non-flavored Protein powder and mix it up with other lighter soups and see if this does the trick.

I'm also going to try to negotiate with my surgeon on other possible options . Lol :P

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
