I have not been cleared to start into real carbs yet, although I understand from other people that most of us won't tolerate much of these foods. However, I know there is a product out there called CarbQuick that is a low-carb baking mix - you can use it to make pancakes and waffles. I have seen it in many of the Bariatric Stores, such as American Bariatrics.

High carb foods should be eaten after you reach your goal weight

I don't ever plan on allowing myself to return to the world of carbs. They let me down in a BIG way. I won't let them into my new body. Ever.

I'm not even sure why you would be considering this. Didn;t these foods get you where you are today ona surgical table.

Lets reevaluate our meal plan shall we?

Carby foods like bread, Pasta and rice tends to expand in your stomach which is why we're told to avoid them in the beginning. Down the road, whole grain pancakes and waffles may be fine in small proportions (with low calorie syrup/topping of course). :-)

I don't think being condescending is too helpful. Some people have the mind set of high Protein low carb for the rest of their lives. Others have the mind set of moderation with balance. Neither one is right or wrong.

To the op,

If you can do the low carb, then maybe closer to goal and a year out 1/2 a pancake or waffle as a treat won't cause you to regain if eaten in moderation. (Ie once a month at most) But be wary of bread due to the expanding. Might be uncomfortable. Also keep in mind it won't keep you full very long. Maybe have an egg and if there is room for low carb whole wheat waffle with sf Syrup, try a bite.

I've had a couple bites here and there when my wife orders them. They went down fine. For me I just don't eat them because they take up to much space in my stomach, I always need the room for my Protein.< /p>

I didn't do well with starchy foods early out so I didn't try a bite of pancakes or waffles till I was about a year out. I now occasionally enjoy the whole grain frozen waffles. I'm two years out. I like to have two with 1/2 bananna and Mrs. Butterworth's sugar free Syrup. I don't eat them often. They do not keep me full as long as 100% whole grain. But nice for a treat. I've had a few bites of pancake too, but haven't tried eating a whole one.

I am able to tolerate them. However I find I can only eat a very small portion and then I am full and can't eat anything else. I prefer to eat Protein which is more filling and more satisfying for me.

Medifast makes a high-protein pancake meal, if you absolutely had to have it.

Well if you want to make your own, eggface has a ton of WLS friendly recipes:

For me, it's not worth it to bother cooking them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
