Tofu & shiritaki noodles?

Recommended Posts

Can and when can I eat them? Is that a vegetable or a Protein? I'm 3 weeks post op. Just trying to be creative with meals. I'm not a vegetarian, I like variety.

Thanks

Amanda

Not sure about shiritake noodles, but with tofu, it depends on the firmness. You could have silken tofu in the soft foods phase, but extra firm tofu (especially sauteed) should probably wait until you're on all regular foods.

They are neither Protein nor vegetable really... if you look at the nutrition label on them, they have only 3 carbs and only 1 gram of Protein per serving, and not a lot of vitamins/minerals. If I HAD to classify them, I'd lean towards a veggie (though they really aren't). Sooo... really they are just a low carb vehicle for sauces with no real nutritional value...ha.

Remember that your first priority is protein, then complex carbs... I don't know that these really fit either of those priorities.

It's an extremely low calorie food with no real nutritional. But it's great for weight loss and maintaining. I was never ever able to get passed the fishy smell even after rinsing n boiling.

Not a fan of the noodles, but I am addicted to Tofu right now. I have been eating the Nasoya Light firm tofu since about 5-6 weeks post op. 45 calories and 9 (I think) Protein. I usually have it as a snack or as a side dish to add more protein to my main protein. :)

Thank you for all the input. I guess I'll wait on the noodles for a while and try the silken tofu.

Thank you!

Amanda

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
