tired of being lectured on here

Recommended Posts

I am really sick and tired of being lectured on this site...people assuming just because I was fat, that I had an unhealthy relationship with food. Not everyone was like this! Pre op, I never ate to excess because when I was full I would stop eating. (I was on a low calorie lifestyle change and stuck with it for years...I stuck with it so I wouldn't gain weight) Fat people get this stereotype from those on the outside all the time (that we eat a lot)and I finally thought this was a place of non judgement. I am aware many on this site got the way they are because they ate a lot but not everyone. Same goes with exercising: people are lecturing that you have to make sure you exercise daily or else and half of these holier than now lectures haven't seen the inside of a gym until this year. Which isnt a problem because they have chosen to make a change but do not lecture others when you dont know their history. Finally...being lectured about my post op drinks. Everyone is given a list by their drs and are not supposed to stray away from that list. I was told 2oz 3x per day of boost, ensure, Atkins, slim fast, etc. I am constantly being told these are not healthy...and being read the nutrition facts..um I have it right in front of me and can read but honestly if my dr says to drink it I will.

I would like to answer your lecture about lecturing but I'm afraid I might lecture.

Edit:

Oops, I think I just did.

My post op instructions read similar to yours. Just follow your doctors orders. (Hugs)

Janice,

Non critical question here. Just wondering since you didn't over-eat -- do you know why you got over-weight?

Blessings,

Because sometimes metabolism is genetic both my parents are morbidly obese as well. I'm sure as a teenager I overate a little but not to the extent of most of my friends.

I became overweight at puberty and then went to obese and finally morbidly obese...of course I enjoyed a cupcake every once in a while but I would go to the gym extra hard then. I had been at a steady weight since 19 when I started going to the gym regularly.

I wasn't lecturing you about post op drinks I just wanted the person that had questions about it to know every doctors rules and diets are different. I'm not perfect and in no way meant to make it seem like you were wrong. I apologize if you took it that way.

I have the same question.

Plenty of people are fat and dont eat a lot I'm not some rare species. As a teenager I probably ate 1800-2000 calories which according to drs that should be enough to maintain but i was gaining instead..looking back at it from pre op when I was eating about 1200 a day for a few years I guess I might say that is over eating but when I came on here and see that some people go back for thirds at dinner and can finish a whole large popcorn on their own I dont think I was over eating at all.

The sleeve helps us eat less -- but since over-eating was not the issue for you -- can you share why you got the sleeve since it restricts the amount of food you eat -- but that's the issue for you?

I'm sorry that you inherited morbid obesity from your parents. Just doesn't seem fair :(

Bless you Janice,

WeeWers

Because when I tried less than 1200 calories and going to the gym I was constantly hungry. I did lose 8lbs in a week when i was at 1000 calories per day but i didnt like being hungry since i eat when im hungry...So I figured this would be my tool to not be hungry with less and when I get to the maintenance stage I will be back at my 1200 (1400 when I went out) maintaining lifestyle and all will be well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
