May 29th surgery--now almost 5 days out

Recommended Posts

I'm feeling a little insecure with my own surgery currently because I've had such a good experience. I just feel like I have a lot of questions. when does the weight start coming off? Will I have loose skin? If so, what is the remedy to that...more surgery? I'm also terrified of losing my hair. With all of these things to come I am still confident in my decision to do the surgery. It will make me more confident and foremost ill be healthier. Any advice? Anyone going through the same thought process? Let me know.

Hey, I had my procedure the same day! I ad a horrific post op experience in the hospital though and am still very sore and can't bend over and it hurts to get up from sitting so my immediate concerns are more with the healing and praying there's nothing wrong and the pain goes away soon! I was just reading in the plastic surgery threads and started to worry about needing plastic surgery later (terrified to ever go through another surgery). Losing my hair never really crossed my mind but I have read people who experienced it so it's a real concern. I have extremely thick hair so hoping I can ride that out! So yes, I am thinking about the same things and anxious to feel better and start seeing results!

Hi and congrats! I had surgery on 12/18/12 and so far so good. I feel guilty sometimes because I have had a pretty easy time of it besides the stalls. I have not lost as much as some but more than others. I have not had to vomit once since leaving the hospital. I did vomit each time they gave me pain meds so I stopped taking it. I have had days when I eat too much and make myself hurt but not too often. I have lost a lot of hair but am lucky that I started with so much. I cut may hair to shoulder length so that it would stay fluffy. I think that the Hair loss is slowing down now. My weight loss started out pretty steady and then stalled during week three. I found out that was pretty normal. After that I started to see a pattern. I would lose for a week or two then gain two pounds then lose again. So far the pattern has stuck. I have had a few longer stalls but then I go back to liquids until it starts again. I have not started to exercise yet but am looking for a gym to join in the next week or so. I am finally ready to get in the gym. I have a hard time with Vitamins. I am trying to figure out how to make them routine and see if that helps but so far I am hit and miss. My biggest goal is to get a grip on why I love to eat. I am also looking for a therapist or behaviorist to help me with that. I hope this helps. It might just be me rambling. If you have specific questions I would be happy to help. Good Luck!

I've come to terms that I am very lucky to have had the doctor I had and his staff as well. I'm very sorry to hear about your initial experience. Hopefully, once you get over any soreness and pain you'll feel more comfort. One thing I noticed that helped me feel more comfortable while i was sore( comfort is a HUGE thing for me) is a certain seated position. Laid a little back. And feet propped up. I seat in an oversized chair all day in that exact position and it allows me to work my abdomen "enough". The up and down isn't extreme but it gets you moving around enough to work past the soreness.

Vitamins is another huge thing for me. The liquid Multivitamin i am taking is gross. My best to date liquid concoction is strawberry whey Protein, liquid Calcium, and vanilla almond milk. It's delicious and really satisfying since it incorporates both protein and calcium. Unfortunately, I don't have super thick hair to start with, so I'm already considering chopping it off so I won't have to witness its thinning.

Oh wow, you can have almond milk and Protein drinks already! I am still on Clear Liquids and Protein Shots, which are vile!

Can you swallow Vitamins? Or with the sleeve, do pills not absorb as well? I had a different procedure but similar in some ways so our post op could be different.

Probably taste as crappy as the liquid Protein I drink! I take solid Vitamins, omeprezole pill, a pain pill and drink around 32-48 ounces of clear liquid plus 5 tablespoons of Protein. I started to make a list of questions for my doctor tomorrow. I think it is normal to have many questions post surgery and have been thinking about the things you mentioned.

I think you would look cute with short hair so I say go for it! It will be a whole new look for your new body

Just talk my doctor. Turns out I'm not having enough Protein so I just upped my intake. Liquid fork of anything is disgusting, but I'm learning to tolerate it.

I also think it is normal to have to many questions. I'm just ready for then to be answered.

And thanks! I really think I might go for it. Only shoulder length though.

What about an angular bob that has some really nice sharp lines so it's a little longer in the front and maybe some jagged bangs (not sure how to describe them but the bangs that are not completely straight across and aren't thick).

I have curly hair so it won't look good short because it gets too puffy and wide :(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
