bigjim77 20 Posted June 3, 2013 I am on day 13 of my preop liquid diet and yesterday I went to a graduation party for my niece and I ate meatballs, sausages and Pasta. I have tried to do good for the last 2 weeks by having sf Jello and Popsicles and Glucerna Protein Shakes. Did I just kill my chances of having my surgery on June 6th? johnlatte 1,232 Posted June 3, 2013 Short answer...no you should be fine, if this is your only cheat. Longer answer, use this time pre-op to get a full understanding of your relationship with food and eating. Post op - eating improperly can be uncomfortable, can easily stall your weight loss and could be dangerous to your health.
kitkat 76 Posted June 3, 2013 You should be fine. The most important thing about pre op diet is to lose weight to shrink you liver. The second most important is to stick with your last two days before surgery. That, if you are like me, is when u have to do a colon cleanse. Had I not done that right they would have canceled my surgery. Good Luck!
JoiaRox 430 Posted June 3, 2013 I'm with johnlatte above...think about why you felt the need to self-sabotage so close to your surgery and reflect on that. While the one splurge may not hinder your June 6th surgery (I'm on the 7th - yay us!), you need to come to peace with the fact that food just won't be the same anymore for you. Are you ready to separate from that? Luckily, my doc didn't put me on liquids pre-op. I can eat anything I want as long as I don't go over 50g of carbs per day - although I'm getting sick of meat, cheese and carb-friendly lattes, it's definitely better than liquids! Hang in there - we're almost at the beginning of the rest of our lives!
Reigo 111 Posted June 3, 2013 I didn't go on liquids 2 weeks out so don't think it should impact surgery date but for sure, you can't cheat at all for 2 days out! The other advise is very good. I struggle with wanting food not for coping but because I am a huge foodie and travel all over the world for work and eating different foods was such an exciting thing for me so I had to come to terms with the lifestyle change. Good luck!
