I use premium Protein Shakes from Costco.they are pre-made in a carton 11oz. I keep several in the fridge and have a small cooler that I take with me if I'm going to be away from the house. You can buy the bags that you can put right in the freezer. I got mine at target. They work great.

you can freeze the pre-made shakes. when your ready to drink it you can thaw it or drink like a slushy type drink.

If I want to keep it cooler for longer I'll put it in an insulated travel mug, but otherwise... it gets warm. I wonder about the travel mugs that you put in the freezer to keep your drink cool because they have an ice-pack type layer in between the inside of the mug and the outside layer. Maybe one of those would help?

You could try re-usable plastic ice cubes. You would have to wash the cubes, but they're dishwashwer-safe and would keep it good and cold without watering down your shake.

If your cup is on the smallish side and you don't want to use the cubes, here's a link for the freezer cup that aquitenonnymouse mentioned. This version is an open mug, but you can also buy them with lids and straws for travel (unless you never use a straw). ;)

Ok I'm a simple gal.... I buy the premier pre made Protein Drinks from costco (yummy at six months I still drink one a day)

And if I'm out and about? I just pack one with me they are "shelf stable" so they don't have to be refrigerated.

No fuss no muss :D

Laura Ven,

So even after your shake, you still don't need to keep it cool?

So even after your shake' date=' you still don't need to keep it cool?![/quote']

Not quite sure what you mean by this???

After my shake? It is gone, I drank it so it doesn't matter what temp it is. :D

Are you talking about when I open it? Yes I make sure I drink it within the hour, if not I would have refrigerate it.

When I was earlier post op, I would use a Packit bag for keeping my shakes and Protein meats in a cold and safe state for many hour.

Here is a search result from Amazon of many different Packit styles:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_10?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=packit+cooler&sprefix=Packit+coo%2Caps%2C392

Just throw it in your freezer and it becomes a longer lasting frozen lunch bag overnight. It worked really well for me when taking Protein Snacks to the theatre or a shake to the monthly support meeting. I do not use it so much any longer because now I always know how to find protein food snack or meal when I am out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
