Emeraldrose, I went through the same exact thing with hunger pains! I thought something was wrong with me! It took a couple of weeks to pass... I was on an acid reducer also.... It will go away! Good luck!

I felt hungry a lot in the beginning. Taking a ppi will take care of some of this problem. I felt like my stomach was eating itself at times. It made some horrible sounds. It will go away soon. I still get hungry now after surgery....not like before...but when I need to eat I get grouchy if I don't. Just make sure to eat regularly because sometimes you can forget to eat...haha...that is funny to me because before the surgery I would never forget to eat. Now it can be mid day and I will think to myself...oh no...I haven't eaten today yet! I don't have to take a ppi anymore...but in the beginning it was a life saver. The acid in your tummy can really play havoc on it. Good luck!

sassygirl, do you recall how long it was post-op when you stopped taking your PPI?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
