Ok had the gastric sleeve on Thursday, May 30, and it was not really that bad, I have had some soreness but no more than gallbladder surgery. Now I just stay hungry. If i go for a period of 35-40 minutes without something in my stomach I have horrible hunger pangs. I am drinking gluecerna with Unjury Protein in it, which should be enough protein at this point....but I am still so hungry. I feel hurngy, not just in my head, my stomach is rumbling, has anyone else had this problem.

Did you do a liquid diet before surgery?

yes, I was truly hungry, especially when I was on the liquid diet post-op...it did get better when I moved to soft foods...some people say it's not really hunger but the excess acid causing stomach rumblings...are you on a PPI? when I started taking Prevacid my dr had prescribed, it did help--but didn't totally alleviate the hunger...again, it is much better now that I can eat some dense protein....hang in there

yes, for 3 days before surgery and for 2 weeks before I did mostly Protein Shakes, with a small meal each day. I won't say I was perfect, but I lost some weight during the process.

I am not on an antiacid, but I thought that might have something to do with it, I will be calling my dr tomrrow, to see if I can start on Zantac.

I got sleeved last Tuesday 5/28. My doctor discharged me on full liquids. I get the occasional hunger pang but it goes away within 30 seconds on it's own.

Your body is still getting rid of the ghrelin that was in your tummy. This will cause hunger but it will go away in time. You've got this keep hydrating as much as possible and then drink some Protein Shakes for a little fullness. :)

How long does it take for the body to get rid of the ghrelin?

I was sleeved a day before you. I do not feel hungry at all, although I have had the rumbling in my stomach which they told me was just gas. I really walked a lot after surgery and have even walked a few miles in the few days following surgery. Just stay hydrated and keep your chin up, it will all work out! Good luck!

It seems i am either starving or stuffed all the time, since about three mos out. It's annoying! I probably don't drink enough liquids though, and just today started back on prilosec to see if that helps. Good luck. SW 300/ CW 230. Surg 10/25/12

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
