Back in the Water

Recommended Posts

Since I know there are alot of Dr. Coburn patients here I thought I would ask this here.

How long after your surgery did you have to wait to get back into Water like a bath or hot tub.

I made the mistake of going to look at hot tubs yesterday and want to surprise my wife with it for Christmas, and I am wondering how long I would not be able to use it after surgery.

Are there any reasons why I would not be able to use a hot tub after I am recovered from my surgery?

Thanks,

Gaffer

First of all Gaffer...KUDOS to you for thinking of buying such a wonderful gift for Mrs Gaffer!!! Yowzers!!!

I was told to wait about a week or so before having a bath (showers were fine.....just no soaking until the incisions were healed).

But to be on the safe side, I recommend you pose your query directly to Dr. C's office.

Again....nice one!!!!

Yeah... I didn't wanna even think about sitting in my own filth until I had no scabbies! :)

Thanks, I dont think Mrs. Gaffer would like to sit in tepid Water with my gaping abdominal woulds either.

As for the tub, it was something that I thought would be a good compromise. We were going to build our dreamhome before the housing market in Calgary went through the roof so we backed out and opted for our current smaller house instead of a giant mortgage. Now hopefully she can stay home after the second child is born.

Anyway.... she really wanted the giant jetted tub for the master suite in the new house, but since that is no longer a reality i thought that she would like this.

She is pretty excited to say the least.

Gaf

Hi Gaffer,

After your surgery you will have adhesive strips holding the small incisions closed instead of stitches. You do not want to soak these off till your incisions have closed completely which for me was 2 to 3 weeks, just like the Dr.'s office flyer described. Tell Mrs. Gaffer I'm jealous!!

Happy Holidays.

I'm jealous Gaffer - just being in Calgary. My son is living there (after we moved east) and goes to U of C. About the stitches, mine were on for about 2 weeks before I could soak in the tub - my one stress reliever.

Have a Merry Christmas and Great choice!!

Ohhhhhhhhh a tub to soak in, what a nice thought! Are you putting it indoor or outdoor Gaf? I'm sure she'll be thrilled!

It is a small 3 person triangular shaped tub that will be going on the deck. Really it is a gift for the family, including myself. I figure that I will need some means to reduce stress after my surgery, since before that I would reduce stress by eating which I have been doing for the last 31 years.

We have had a good year, and have made several sacrifices to get my new business up and running while working full time and having a new baby. I think we deserve it.

I have also been trying to think of things to do to occupy mind instead of focusing on food. I was thinking of trying a new hobby or taking a class or something just to distract my mind. Anybody have any good ideas, besides the obvious one which is excercise!

Hi Gaffer,

I asked Dr. Cobourn about my pool, since my surgery was in May. He told me about 2 weeks, but not too worry about it too much, since it was my own pool and not a public own. (less contamination I guess).

I also bought the big Band-aid brand bandages that are Water resistant, then before I went swimming I smeared like polysporin or a anti-bactria petroleum jelly over the incisions then applied the bandage and didnt worry about it.

ENJOY your hot tub:bathbaby: !!!

Becca,

I think a new hobby would be great to take ones mind off food. Our family got into a few different ones just after my surgery. Guess what my daughter and I started?? Belly dancing! Don't laugh ...well okk laugh cause it is funny to see uncoordinated me try to whip that waist around! But we love it and it's fun (and we don't think of it as exercise).

We also started Aikido classes together - that is fun. I get to throw the kids and they get to throw me. I did another first and started ceramics. I love to paint and found some animals that I wanted to learn how to paint. Great therapy and occupies my hands - evenings are the worse for me after dishes and chores are done - idle hands want to snak!!!!

So what I'm trying to say is find something that interests you or that you want to learn and dive in... knitting seems really popular now and so does painting. Have fun. Good luck and let us know what you decide to do.

I started scrapbooking last spring. It is fun and addicting, unfortunatly it can be pricey.

I'm thinking about taking a Yoga class in January. I'm a little unsure. I think I would like it for the relaxing, but I'm not quite sure about the headstand stuff. I've got some more pounds to take off first before I attempt things like that. So, I'm not sure I'll go threw with it.

My friend started Yoga a few months ago - she doesn't do the head stuff and finds the classes relaxing and it fights her depression. If you start off slow you may find a new love.

Hope you find a hobby that fits you!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
