(Exercise) Being sleeved June 21st :)

Recommended Posts

Initially after the sleeve do you lose weight without exercise ? I know I will have to start but its hard when your 275 lbs:( . I really want to get to a place where it's not so hard to exercise and make it part of my life. Please can anyone that has had the surgery give me your story on how much weight you lost without exercise ?? Thank you

I have seen many people on here lose quite a bit without upping their exercise at all. So I think as long as you get your foods pretty close to where you need to be you will get where you want to begin your workouts.

Me personally I have begun walking as much as I can muster (I'm 11 days post) and will continue adding more each day until I'm cleared to workout :)

HA! I was going to say you won't see to many people here that did it without exercise! :P

Listen in the early stages you will drop weight, but at some point exercise will become necessary not only for weight loss but to help tone up too.

Walking is something that most of us can do.

If you don't want to do it in public buy a used treadmill off of Craigslist.

I had my surgery 2 days after my 66th birthday. I weighed 275 and could not do much exercise. I am 6 months out now and lost 69 lbs without exercise. Now it is getting harder to lose. So it is possible, because I did it. At some point like me you will have to exercise. By the way I am on insulin and that makes it harder to lose also.

Best of luck. Do what you can but most important follow the recommended diet.

I have physical limitations due to extensive neurosurgery but have used physical therapy 3x weekly as part of my exercise regiment. I also have an easy cycle, elliptical and a Pilates machine to help with my workout but have not been cleared to use the elliptical by my doctor as of yet. Even with the limited exercise, I have lost 69lbs in 14 weeks. Doing something like walking help tremendously especially now that the weather is warm.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
