Hi, I had my surgery in early November of 2012. Seven months out and my hair is falling out like crazy...very scary. I consume 63 grams of Unjury Protein, 46 grams of lowfat greek yogurt protein a day plus eat chicken breast or ham and low fat cheese sticks ..every day. I also snack on almonds and that has an additional 5 grams of protein. So I eat about 120 or more grams of protein a day. I also take my Vitamins, Calcium and Biotin every day. It feels like i have lost about half of my hair on the crown of my head. I have tried the hair shampoos for falling hair and nothing works.....According to my bloodwork, I am healthy. I sleep well and have good energy. Everything is awesome except I'm still losing my hair. I have searched on here for other experience on Hair loss but have not found anyone going to any great length on the subject, especially long term. i would like to pop in a give my own account in order to help others. It may not be important to you now but when its YOUR hair falling out, it will be different. Having hair all over your clothes and on the floor is not fun. Its embarrassing .My advice on that matter is do not wear clothes that are in great contrast to your hair color. Wear clothes that are the same color as your own hair. Also, you might just want to take more bathroom breaks at work and take your shirt off and pick off the hair a few times a day. Having told my story as it is and has been, i still choose the weight lose over the hair. I do have two inch long hairs sticking up all over the crown of my head now...YeaH!!! Besides, I THINK that we notice much more than others.. Most people walk through life completely self immersed , we only fear that they are noticing those things that we stand in front of the mirror hating : ) I hope this helps those looking for information. I hope that it does not deter you from committing to the surgery. it was the best thing that i have ever done for myself ! I am completely happy with my results. I went from a size 14 down to a sizes 6 and even 4 . Life is good and this too shall pass . I remember the early surgery days when it was hard to get my protein in and the sleepless nights and feeling tired. Its all gone now and a distant memory. Im sure this hair loss will be the same one day, a distant memory !post-40114-13813666293703_thumb.jpg post-40114-13813666295104_thumb.jpg

The pictures are pictures that I took after brushing my hair this morning. My hair will continue to fall during the day and when I brush my hair later, my brush will again have tons of hair in it. For awhile i was too frighten to brush my hair more than once a day...better to brush it than to have it fall over your clothing. : )

Im having the same issue.. I guess it doesnt matter how much Protein you are taking in.. or how much Vitamins you take.. or what you do.. My is falling out by the brush full..and I mean brush full... its been like this for 2 months now.. Im afraid im going to be bald soon.. its thinning so much.. but I too would trade all my hair for the weight ive lost.. small price to pay.. but hey when it is your hair.. its a HUGE deal.. I too have tried everything.. extra Bioten.. special shampoos.. nothing works..and Im afraid that nothing will work either.. just wonder how long its going to last. my hair is very long too.. down to my butt.. so its massive looking when I lose it.. wish it would stop. :(

My Hair loss stopped at around 8 months post op. it's the shock on your system that causes it. I believe all the extra stuff people buy doesn't help a bit...just a waist of money...but to each is own. I ended up just cutting it to shoulder length and adding in highlights and low lights to add volume appearance. Not all my hair fell out, and honestly no one ever said a thing about it...other then my hairdresser noticing the re growth. Good luck to you all :)

Im also in the Hair loss period of time. I started losing it around 3 months and now Im 6 months and its seemed to be slowing down but I dont have any regrowth yet. Luckily I had tons of hair before I started losing it so yes its thin to me, Ive seen people that have much thinner hair without having lost weight. Like the OP said, Id much rather have the healthy benefits of the weight loss then a lush full head of hair. Besides, people are looking at how cute I look in all my new clothes rather then the top of my head. Itll come back eventually and itll give me a great excuse to get another short bob cut that I love so much!!

This may sound gross... But try rubbing yeast infection cream (monistat 7) on your scalp once a week. Check YouTube. Lots of testimonials on it for hair growth and keeping the scalp healthy. I do it because It eliminates dandruff. I don't do it every week because I'm lazy, but i will start again to avoid too much Hair loss. see one article below. Idk. It's not for everybody.

Very good point. I went through the Hair loss and although I knew it was coming it was still hard. Being a fat girl all I used to have was my nice hair. The peak of the loss was about three 3 months to about 6 mos. It slowed down around 6 close to month 7. My one year surgiversary is coming up on the 15th and I can still see the effects but its growing back. Thank goodness. It will pass but that didn't make it easier for me. I did have to cut my hair to a bob and forgo my relaxers. Chemicals and hair loss are not compatible. Good luck and the nioxin Shampoo did slow the loss a little or at least I would notice decreased shedding.

Good day... I too went through a period of not severe (no bald patches) , but a lot of Hair loss between 5-9 months. I am 17 months out and the new growth makes me look like I've been electrocuted. I have so much curly hair about 3 inches long throughout my entire head, putting it up makes it so obvious. I'm not complaining about the regrowth, just hate how kinky curly it is. Check out this precious post.http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/79363-hair-loss-my-story/ Good luck

Take Fish Oil. 1200-2500 Omega 3's a day. It stops the Hair loss.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
