Can you tell me.. would you do the Lap Band again? I also want to find out if the "fills" are painful to get? they put a needle in there? Is the change in eating hard to adjust to ? all that chewing?

I have been through some nasty medical stuff in my life.. I am a breast cancer survivor.. chemo... all that jazz,

But the thought of a needle in my stomach makes me flinch! But I really need to change.. If I don't lose.. I am looking at lots of health problems just getting worse... I am sort of bummed out just now... If anyone can give me a boost I would love that... thanks.. Nina

Hi, Nina~

I would without a doubt get the band again. I'm 11 months post surgery and while the weight is coming off slowly, it IS coming off! I don't feel deprived and can eat many food I enjoy in small quantities.

The fills are a piece of cake! My doc just numbs the spot...all you feel is a tiny prick or pinch. The only sensation for the actual fill is a little pressure...I don't feel the needle at all. Lots of people worry about the fills, but once they've had one, that fear is gone. It's truly no big deal.

The extra chewing was a little difficult for me to get used to, but if you don't do anything else (TV, ,read, etc) while you're eating, you can concentrate on chewing well and taking small bites. After while it gets to be a habit and you don't have to concentrate that much anymore.

Hope this is helpful. Getting the band was the best thing I ever did for myself (besides getting a divorce)! This site will be so helpful to you...keep checking in. There is a wealth of information and help here.

Good luck~

Emily

Fills are nothing to worry about! I don't even have the area numbed first. I think there are fewer nerve endings in that area, because I honestly barely feel it. I am a frequent blood donor, though, and needles just don't bother me. I'd rather get stuck with a needle or get blood drawn than to get that little finger prick to test your Iron, though!

I'm pretty new to Bandland, but at this point I would get my band again in a second.

Chewing a lot was hard to adjust to, but I'm learning that the band is a good teacher. If you don't do what it wants, it has a way of reinforcing the lessons once it's adjusted.

I've had 4 fills and they haven't hurt at all. I just don't look, and I can barely tell when the needle goes in. No numbing or anything. Easier then my yearly flu shot.

Id also do it all over again. If I didn't, I have no doubt that I'd still weigh 280 pounds.

Good luck in your decision.

I would definitely do the lapband again. I have never lost 34 lbs without feeling hungry my entire life. Its been great. As far as the fills go, you can ask your doctor for a local at the fill - port site. The needle is long and it goes in with ease. I would definitely be numb first though. Some doctors don't use a local so it hurts more. Good luck.

I think that's a REALLY important point, that I know I didn't get until after banding, really until after this last fill.

It's not the pre-band days, where I would struggle and struggle, be hungry and obsessed about food trying to lose weight. I have days where at the end of the day, I don't feel as though I've been eating less, where I wonder how I can feel this satisified and still lose weight. That is a major thing for me, and gives me such hope that this is indeed my solution. I sure hope so, I'll be paying for this for a while!:faint:

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
